Thinking about Going STi?

So, ive had my cobalt from april 09. Its awesome i love it. But I also own a 2002 Bugeye wrx thats a automatic as its my wifes. Love that car as well. It feels soo solid having 131k. It feels more solid then the cobalt does. Im kinda thinking of selling the cobalt and finding myself a 04-07 Aspen White STi with gold BBS's. Only thing i cant seem to find one under 19k that has less then 80-110k miles. Kinda wary of such high miles. Right now my cobalt is a garage queen and is stored from Nov to april for winter. It only has 16,000 miles. Basicly looking to get rid of my 2 cars (09 Cobalt SS & 99 Integra GSR) and have one all year car. thoughts?

You'll love it. And you really dont have to worry about mileage...only thing is to make sure, fluids are changed and the timing belt has been done at 105... other than that, you can't beat the car. A way more solid car than a cobalt thats for sure.

yea way more solid try to make 500 on it see how solid it is hahaha. i'd rock one as a dd not as a "racecar" though not impressed with them in that aspect.

its a better car thats for sure.... good luck finding what you interested in for less then 20. they are out there but high mileage ones seem to come in at the low 20 range. i saw one out here recently with 30k for 24 from a private seller.

like celfan said... timing belt, fluids and what not all need to be done. also pretty much if the car had a larger turbo on it with stock internals i would never touch it. stock internals in my eyes on them cars are god for bolt ons and a tune only and nothing much more.

after totaling the cobalt i thought about an sti but my insurance seems to think that an sti should be nearly double the rates of which i pay for the cobalt so its out of the question...buying an evo is to since i know if i pick up an evo i have the tools and technology to build another 1000hp car.

Insurance will go up about 250/year. Not terrible if i can get lower payments.

you know how the cobalt, pieces randomly fall off... weird noises, clunks, creaks and rattles.... yea, you don't get that in a car like the sti or evo. They are a much better built car and are much more solid. You drop in pistons you are ready to go for 500AWHP. DD wise, the car is much more fun to drive the the cobalt hands down.

Hey whatever justifications you gotta try to use bro. End of the day they're all 4 banger econo boxes all have their rattles and shakes no matter how much u wanna try to deny it. 500awhp with pistons is pretty damn laughable too.

You need more then pistons in the sti for reliable 500awhp. I've been part of the subaru community a long time. I see more people pop subaru motors then any other car community I've been apart of becausea of the lack of putting in quality part
s.

Mikes not looking for that though. I think with complete bolt ons and a tune is good to go. I have a rs now that im toying with and ill have another cobalt eventually. I think half the problem with cobalt owners is they can't drive them, improper setups, and there's not a good following of vendors. Only a few produce good parts.

this is one of the reasons I wanna make the switch, it's amazing the endless number of high quality parts you can find for subys and evos. All around a much better car either way you go.

YYeah too bad the cobalts totaled...will get another one more then likely.... I have quite a bit of quality parts into it and I know where to get more. Comes at the price of aftermarket stuff for an evo or sti.

Don't get all bent out of shape, I owned an SS, the only thing that I didn't touch was the inside of the trans. They are still nice cars. I love driving my girls car, it gets me back in the seat of a car which I had alot of emotions with, good and bad. Cobalts vs STI.. well, its a better built car... even an 03 evo. They are better built and a much more solid car. I mean your comparing close to a 40k new car vs a 20k new car... obviously its a better built car lol

Block wise, the rods are good for 600 as they are forged just like the cobalt, so is the crank. There is nothing funny about that, that is fact.

As far as DD wise go, tune it, bolt it, have fun with it. It makes a great road coarse car and is SO much fun to drive. I enjoy and have had other SS drivers enjoy driving the sti over an SS.

Generally they are popping due to people not tuning the cars when they mod them as they are very sensitive as you should know if you are aware of the community or from the emission controlling factory tune 07+ had on them. The motors are solid in the state, just like the cobalt ones. everything will and can break. not saying they are bullet proof as nothing is

Switching to the evo is a little bit more monthly and i get raped insurance wise, but it was worth it. I will admit though, that i am getting tired of all the attention it gets haha. Pull up to a local car show with a buddy that has a cobalt and first thing i hear when i get out is "sick evo man!" Lol

STIs are nice.

Few things to note about STIs:

- Nice DD and occasional track car.
- Super solid tranny on the years you're talking about.
- The 'Balt SS/TC is more bang for your buck.
- STIs do have rattles but most are minor like trim pieces rather than suspension or brakes.
- If you're not looking to go beyond stage II in an STI then you'll be good. At stage two you'll probably be 320hp or so at the crank. Stage II is easy to obtain and is a bit more fun than stock.
- 500whp in an STI is super expensive and harder to do than it is in a Cobalt.
- You can't just put an intake or exhaust on an STI like you can a Cobalt. The ECUs are totally different and nearly every mod on an STI needs a tweek to the tune or you can **** up your engine. Basically, you're more likely to damage an STI with bolt ons than a Cobalt.
- There is more tuning support and way more products for an STI.
- BOVs aren't good for STIs.
- STIs are not good straight line racers. The gears are waaaaaay lower than a 'Balt. You will be shifting way more often. From a dig an STI is better than a 'Balt. From a roll the 'Balt is better.
- STIs sound great.
- If you're in to attracting 16 year old boys then the STI is a great way to pick them up.
- It's easier to sell an STI than a 'Balt but it's harder to find an unmodded one.
- 5x114.3 nuff said there. LOL.
- Maintenance and repair costs are about the same.
- If you thought GM dealerships were bad about denying warranty work due to mods then you haven't seen anything yet.
- 93 octane required. 91 will work but it's about like running 89 on a 'Balt.
- HUGE forums and TONS of information. North American Subaru Impreza Owners Club is one of the busiest sites on the web. Go there and look how many people are viewing each forum. This is also your best bet on finding what you're looking for. Post a WTB.
- Another good site is Subaru Impreza WRX STI Forums: IWSTI.com (Idiots with STIs).
- The classified section on Nasioc is here:
Private Vehicle 'For Sale' Classifieds - NASIOC

You bastard you stole my car lol jk man

They are great cars to buy, test drove an 05 Audi S4, 64000 miles, really nice car, yellow though, was not the color for me,

Found myself a Mazdaspeed 6 though for a decent price, def a better upgrade should be picking it up soon if everything goes alright.
