Argue enough and they'll pay for it.. Take them to court if they try any BS. When my car was totalled it took 3 weeks of arguing to get them to pay me the market value of the car, but I got it

Ouch. Are you OK? Sure looks to be totaled. Sorry to hear about it, man. You've put a lot of time and money into that car.

Clipped by another car?

What is the whole story? I"m confused as to why this wouldn't be covered. Now I would understand that an insurance company wouldn't pay for a 10k dollar motor, but no coverage is a joke.

I agree. No coverage is unrealistic.

Unless you tell the insurance company about the mods you've made, they usually only have a clause that covers up to a certain amount of extra value of add-ons/"accessories" of various kinds.

If you make a major mod to your car, it's best to tell them about it so they add it to the policy. The rate will go up, because you're effectively covering more things/value, but when it hits the fan you'll at least get that money back too in addition to the value of the car.

For instance, my Hahn IC is currently covered by my insurance. If it gets wrecked or stolen today, I'm getting the money back for the IC in addition to the value of the car.

Man, I'm really sorry to hear about this.

Thats why i love my insurance company they told me that they will cover anything thats bolted in the car (ie turbo, intercooler) but get actual cash value and not cost replacement... but its better than nothing.

How much do insurances company raise insurance for mods? I kno it would be worth it in case the worst happens but is it ridiculous how high it gets or is it reasonable? Like in the example of *S!CC_R@c!NG_TURTL3* because he had a custom turbo and over 10k in the car, how would that end up?

idk man. i dont see why you wouldnt be covered. this is the risk we all take when building a "custom" car. i have a 79 nova that to the ins. company is worth $700. ive got 10x that invested. if somehting happens then im fucked. i know it not what you wanna hear but its the reality of it. best of luck and i hope it works out for you.

It really depends on the company. Some will even cover up to a certain value for free as long as you have the receipts for them to show how much they were.

If it starts getting too expensive to declare all of the mods, maybe you can pick which ones to cover and take a chance on some of them in return for a lower rate.

Thats what I was thinking. Still bad news for the OP tho. I guess it's like LS6Rally said, building your car is taking a risk.
