Which heat shield are you asking about...?

And why in the hell do you want to remove it?

do you realize how hot an exhaust gets? there's a reason it's there.

Did you try tapping on your exhaust pipe with a rubber mallet? Usually that's how I narrow down an exhaust rattle..

What kind of rattle are you looking for and when does it happen? Where does it sound like its coming from?

With that info I can give you places to look.

Yes this is the same heat shield I am having problems with. It's loose and is rattling, especially on cold start. I looked at them momentarily, and it looks like in order to tighten/remove the shield you have to somehow get to the top bolts (because the bottom nuts are round and can not be gripped). I can't see how this is done without disassembling a little more than I'd like to.
I did not lift the car yet, so maybe there is a way to reach the top bolts that i did not see?

Does anyone have the solution to this problem? How to fix this rattle?

Also, as i have read in the above posts the heat shield should probably not be removed? What would happen if it was?

I believe the heat shield is riveted in place. You can try bending it a little bit in some direction to get rid of the rattle.

If you remove the heatshield you're oging to transfer alot of heat to the floor of the car. It may or may not cause issues but I'd rather not risk it.

My heatshield was broken just 2 days ago.
I heard a rotational grating noise so I took it to the shop.
$40 later they found it was a broken heatshield and welded it back together.

Yea, but it looks like it is held on with bolts that may be able to be tightened? Like i said previously, i can only see the bottom of the bolts, with the round nuts and a thread coming through them.
Just wondering if anyone knows if these can be tightened/removed to stop the rattling?
I was thinking to just add on some small hex nuts to the botttoms of the round ones to tighten the bolts/heat shield, if i can not get the round ones off.
