Why?

I have come to understand a 'salvage title' is applied to any car that had previously been written off;
write-off = damage exceeds value of car

If the car is repaired, it has to pass inspection to be re-registered, and when it is, it get's the 'salvage' title ~ but is an otherwise perfectly fine car...

or am I wrong?

USA is different;
IIRC in Canada the title is applied to a written of car, but once it's fixed, and passes inspection, it's no longer declared as anything special... or lack there of.

unless it is specified as salvage, in that case you can only sell parts...and not fix it.

if you are in Canada you should be fine... my buddy bought a 2008 honda civic and a 2009 mazda 6 that were written off.. his uncle owns a salvage yard/garage... he fixed them up and now he's driving them both..

I'll attest to this.

My car has the same title, the side of it pretty well needed to be replaced, no frame damage. Got wrote off. Great car at a spectacular price due to the title.

I would guess yes and not at the same time...

Yes, in that I'm sure any insurance company is willing to take your money for it.
No, in that if you have an accident, I don't think they will pay out.

That isnt true. Salvage vehicles in Canada can be put back on the road. They have to be fixed and have to pass a special safety test. If the vehicle passes it is then given a re-built title meaning it is able to be on the road again. The cars that cant be put back on the road in canada are branded Salvage Irripairable. Those are parts only never and never to be on the road again.

Same here... R-Title with only 30k on my balt. Looks and drives like new. NO warrant coverage when I bought her. Insurance is full coverage.

Car has to be double inspected to be put back on the road. Wouldn't ever know it was smashed in the front lol.

06yss is correct. I work at a body shop here in Canada. If a car is written off (over 85% valued damage compared to value of car), u can buy the car back from the insurance company, fix it, get it re-inspected, and re-insured. Many of the people I work with buy cars from our compound and fix it themselves and have it inspected.

Just personally I wouldn't drive one I mean even after all the tests and inspections it goes trough ide still be cautious about the tability of the vehicle incase of another accident and what not that's just me though

if it's rebuilt properly (which is the point of the special inspection) then it is virtually a new car;
only not all of the body ect is what that car left the factory with;
this is why you can buy quarter panels, trunk floors, and frame rails... to fix them good as new.

I would say a def maybe man. i bought my car new with a partial warrenty block on it (hail damage code). cars wiht salvaged titles are "supposed" to be pretty much new cars as far as the area of damage was. it all depends on if it was a good body shop or a half ass one. id take the car to a body shop you know is excellent and have them take a look at it and let ya know if its good to go or not worth the money.
