water pump (not supercharger) question

got a quick question, is the impeller in the oem water pump steel or plastic?

im having a cooling issue with my ecotec swapped 944 that acts like a slipping water pump impeller

They can be both. From my experience, older ones were plastic and newer ones were steel. Ive only ever had one steel one.

that would make sense then. the engine was originally an 04 cavalier l61, and i know its an original pump, so its likely a plastic impeller then.

for the record, car is acting like it has low coolant flow at lower rpm. temps will just keep climbing while cruising, drop a couple gears and get the rpm up and itll drop right to 180*f within a few seconds. im suspecting the impeller is slipping on the shaft.

well, the ecotec is partly saab, so kinda sorta explains it lol.

i pulled it apart, and the impeller is in fact plastic, but there is also nothing wrong with it.
