For those that say 1st for an up slope and reverse for a down slope, your engine can turn both directions your car can go backwards in first gear when its turned off. The reason you leave it in gear is because all of the friction in your engine/trans will hold the car. First is best because for the same distance it revs your engine the most and provides the most friction.

Apparantly not. I've had mine in 3 different times and all they do is adjust the cable. I told them that wasn't the problem, that it was the brakes themselves that wouldn't hold, but still. EVERY time I take it in they just adjust the cable and send me on my way. Jesus if it was that simple, I could have fixed it myself.

They were thinking you didn't want to slip the clutch from a dead stop. And that idling along in first and gogin 10mph is kinda hard on the clutch in a parking lot cause you'll be thoring it out so often.

Thats all good, but why did they make 2nd gear so high!?!? You can go 67 mph in 2nd gear, and with stage 2 you can go like 73! The rsx can only go like 53 in second. I just don't get it, its harder on the clutch to have to absorb that huge drop from first to second than it is to slip the clutch a little in a parking lot.

I know what you mean, my girlfriend lives on a hill. I always park down hill so I don't wear out my clutch as much when driving off. I pull the e-brake up as hard as I can every time and put it in reverse. Sometimes I don't even put it in reverse (and I should) I went behind my car one day with just the ebrake on and started pushing. It starts making creaking noises lol. I told my GF "Look what I could do" lol she did not care one bit

I usually park it in R with the e-brake. I do golf on slight inclines, but mostly flat, and my e-brake holds her in place.

Manual says R, but you can park it in 1st if need be!

Typically the same for me but I also take into account which way I'd prefer my car to shoot if I forget to put it in neutral before starting and let my foot off the clutch (yes this saved me once from hitting my garage door, and yes I felt like a complete idiot )

I would have to agree that the E-brake in these cars suck. I always put my car in first gear and put my e-brake on.

Yup...1st and reverse are the shortest gears in the car, hence why they're recommended. In the SS/SC at least, I know 1st is a little shorter than reverse, and so would provide more resistance to rolling. That said, I live in AZ. I only use the e-brake so the wind doesn't push my car anywhere.

normally only use the e brake. no big hills in phx but there are some and in those cases i will use 1st plus the e brake. I cant drive away if my e brake is on I will literally drag the tires like blown 4 did

Here is the sure fire solution. Put your car in 1st. Pull your e-brake all the way up. Turn your wheel toward the curb. Put a block behind and in front of every tire. Place 4 police boots on the wheels. Let the air out of your tires. You should be ok then.

What I do is come to a complete stop, Put it in first and still have my foot on the clutch and brake, then pull the ebrake... turn the car off, let the car settle on the ebrake.

This method allows 1st gear to stop a roll just in case the ebrake fails, but also causes no stress on the Transmission itself.

The ebrake on this car is one of the best I've ever had in a car, and I find most people who complain about it either abuse it by engaging it before they come to a complete stop or use it to powerslide on pavement.

2nd in the SS/SC is approx 10.5 mph / 1k rpm. Yours will redline same as everyone else, unless you've got smaller wheels for some reason.

RSX is also a 6-speed n/a engine...the shorter ratios keep it in its powerband. With our wider powerband we don't suffer any real performance hit with the 5-speed.

I personally like being able to gallop at 80 mph and only 3krpm. My friend's old 05 Si was at 4k at the same speed. Sounded like a swarm of bees when he was on the highway.
