Perhaps this will help...I did the math, and based on the gear ratios and final drive, the max speeds per gear are

1 - 35
2 - 67
3 - 100
4 - 133
5 - 169 (theoretical)

With Stage 2...

1 - 38
2 - 72
3 - 108
4 - 143
5 - 182 (again theoretical)

Rounded to nearest whole number.

It's that ramp-shaped piece of cement you drive over when going from the street to a parking lot so you don't **** up your car.

Quite possible...I would get it checked soon then. If you're going 45 on your speedo, you may really be doing 50+. Would suck to get a ticket for something like that.

Those number are the exact numbers that road & track gave for "speed in each gear" for the ss s/c. Plus, when I blast up the rev limiter in second, and let off its dropping below 65 by the time I look at the speed-o.

Yeah, usually if you almost redline second and shift to third I notice that i am above 60 closing on 70. I park my car in 1st and pull up the e-brake, it's a habit. I basically do this as well:

That's basically what I do as well.

Since I taught myself to drive a manual tranny car, I never had anyone tell me the correct way to park, what gear to have the car in. I noticed that whenever I had previous cars in for service, they would return me my car and it would always be parked in 1st. I guess I was always afraid that I would get in the car, forget the car was in 1st and suddenly go forward hitting a car or something thinking the car was in neutral.

I always have my Cobalt parked in my garage now so I'm not too worried about it rolling but if I leave it in the driveway I'll try putting it in 1st.

On a related note, several years ago in Northglenn Colorado, some people were at their high school and they had their jeep parked outside the swimming pool area. One of the Female students went out to get something in the jeep, for some reason she started it up and not being familiar with manual trans cars, the car started up and lunged forward slamming through the brick wall and landed in the swimming pool. It made the newspapers so that's why I was always hesitant on placing the car in a gear while parked.

Don't worry, it won't let you start it unless the clutch is in, so it will never lurch forward unless you drop the clutch after starting it for some odd reason

lol, i always leave mine in first unless there is something in front of me that i would rather not hit if i were to turn the car on forget it's in gear, let off the clutch and hit it. like when i park in my driveway i leave it in reverse cuz i park right behind my truck... not a good thing to hit...

well... in real life, my car redlines right past 60 mph in second... about 62mph really. i have hit the rev limiter and looked to see where i was at and it is approximately 62 mph. stock everything on the car, so i dunno how you're getting to 67 in second. i can get a pic of me bouncing off the rev limiter in second showing my gauge reding 62 mph if you like.

Well, in real life, those are the mathematical calculations of what the speeds are in those gears. Unfortunately there are no exceptions. If you read 62, then either your speedo is off, or you're running smaller tires than you should be. I'm not trying to be rude, but math is math. That's the way the cars were made. I'm just the messenger.

I only use my E-brake. I was always taught that you dont park a manul trans front drive car in gear.
My brake will hold my car no mater what if I set it. Not if bonnie sets it then the car will roll away on the smalist incline.
I dont know if some of you are not seting it right or if you are not adjusting your brakes properly but my E-brake wil stall the car out befor it lets the car move an inch in any gear unless you dump the clutch then your just going to A: Spin the tires or B: drag the rears.

Ill take a vid with my phone if you would like of me stoping the car with just the E-brake from 5mph or something and show you that it holds on my drive way no problem.

Later

You revving to 10k or something? I want that stage.

Seriously though, 3rd is geared for 107.6 or something like that...rounded to 108. At that speed I wouldn't be surprised to see a speedo off a bit, or even if your tires are under-inflated a little, that will alter your reading. GM typically has some of the more accurate speedos out there, though.

It's not that we have no "faith" in our e-brake but its a pre-cautionary thing. **** happens, and I don't want my $20,000 rolling away.

Is it going to kill people to put it in 1st? At least then your SURE that it won't roll away. I already said how my other car rolled down a hill but was saved by a random guy thank god. And I thought I was SURE that the E-Brake would hold it.

my speedo is actually off... it reads faster than i'm actually going. i've checked it with a radar gun. set the cruise to 30 got clocked doing a little under 28. those numbers are theoretical, there's always a chance that theoretical values can differ from the actual ones.

I would actually bet on the radar gun being off before your speedo...those things can vary greatly depending on the distance and angle you're being scanned at. I've passed by those sidewalk radars that are supposed to remind you how fast you're going, and as I drove by, with cruise set to 45 (just in case!), the readout started at 42 and slowly dropped to 38 as I passed by.
