I'll be straight with you guys. I'm looking very hard at both the Cobalt SS and the SRT4. Before anyone chimes in and says "It looks better".. Looks are Trivial and just because you like or hate something doesn't mean i will too.

So why did you buy your SS or did you just buy it because of the looks? The Cobalt Kicks the SRT4's ass in the interior department but the Turbo engine has an advantage over the Blown Eco. I seriously can't decide.

Honestly I got the SS because it was something different. I see SRT-4's left and right. Now a SS on the other hand, you will have a rare car. There isnt too many of these on the road. Also, in the end the LSJ engine will be almost 2 times more powerful than the SRT's 420a engine when the LSJ gets turbo'd. I would also take the 2 doors over the 4! =)

As swiss said I wanted something different.... Still yet to see another SS/SC on the road...
I liked the interior much better. I thought the ride quality was much better (not "better" then an SRT... just better for me). I hated the seats in the SRT (Im fat and my big ass doesn't fit comfortably in them ). SS had satellite radio... major plus for me, I hate FM... commercials suck ! Overall I just liked the SS much better... Came with more options at a cheaper price.

My reason for making the SS/SC purchase was simple I'm a Chevy fan from the 'Vette to the Impala I've loved their performance division since I was a kid. Just waiting for all the aftermarket products to come out the SS has all the creature comforts that I wanted XM, On-Star, Moon roof, and leather. Plus the damn thing just has ball's, don't get me wrong the SRT4 kicks ass but I to Chevy

I got my SS/SC because its a bran new model. There isnt a car out there like it, its built off a new chassis and it came supercharged, plus the upgrade market will slowly increase which will aid in makin my bad ass SS/SC. I got a **** load off the sticker price cuz of GM employee discounts. I test drove the SRT4 and hated the handeling on it although the engine performance matched the SS I know I chose the best of the 2...GO CHEVY!

i basically had a hold on a silver srt-4 until i saw the cobalt ss, the interior, and the ride quality, it rides so nice, almost as nice as the rsx-s i test drove too, although i liked the interior of the srt-4, the stereo system in the ss needs no upgrading, its nice as is. On the exterior it basically came down to i would be driving a neon, although i realize im driving a "cobalt" too, i liked how they are brand new and kind of rare, and i saw myself wanting to mod my srt-4 right away, as with my ss, im patient...hope your happy with your decison, and make sure you choose the one that is right for YOU, not what we choose! Good luck and happy car shopping man

I got it cause and EVO8 was outta my range by a few thousand. I was 5K shy of having engh loan to cover the car. So i went w/ a smaller loan and got my SS/SC. With the Evo I'd be paying $200 more a month to have it (insurance and payment difference included in the $200/mo more). That $200 is $200 more a month toward saving for a house. I chose house over awesome sportcompact and got a 99.999999% awesome sportcompact.

The wheels, stereo, I wanted a two door. I was willing to sacrifice a little power for a lot nicer total pakage.

I test drove both...

It was Easy ... Looks better,Handles better,Alot more room and honestly i never had any trouble beating an SRT on the street stock vs stock...If they couldn't drive thats not my fault!

You know the saying... Better NO car than a Mopar

I ordered a Cobalt SS/SC because for one I wanted a 2 door and not a 4 door (as in the SRT-4). I understand each has their own preference, but mine is 2 door. Also I'm more of a Chevy fan than a Dodge/Mopar fan, so that could be biased as well . Also I like the tail lights of the Cobalt coupe MUCH better than the SRT-4. Good luck with your decision, both are nice cars and have different personalities.

I think pretty much half or even 75% of the people that have bought the cobalt ss/sc have considered the srt4 also. I know I have. The SRT-4 was what I wanted initially. The ss/sc was out at the time too, however I wanted the SRT4 over the SS because it has A LOT MORE tuning options on it and will for probably a year or so. However, when I went into the chevy dealership, they told me they'd let it go for $18,xxx and some change. I couldn't pass that up especially since the SRT4 I wanted was around 23,000 and there were no discounts. I still wish I would've bought the srt4 because of the turbo. I still think I made the better choice for me though. I'd rather have a turbo, however, my SS/SC is awsome. Most of the time I'd rather be driving my SS/SC than a SRT4. The only time i'd want to drive an srt4 is to take it down to the track to impress people that a neon can be driven into the 13's with little or no mods. Other than that I'd rather drive my cobalt ss/sc. I get so many compliments it's not even funny. And they are from all age groups. I specifically remember a guy that looked like he was in his mid 60's early 70's that asked me if it was my car, i said yes, and he said he liked it a lot.

For me the decision was based on my past experience with Chevy and the complete package. I needed a fun car but it also had to be my daily driver. The SRT-4 for me was too impractical since it is loud both inside and outside, rougher ride, no rear window power window switched (WTF is up with that???) and the "Neon" stigmatism associated with it. Other alternatives I was looking at to the SS/SC were the MazdaSpeed Protege, Ford SVT Focus and 2 door Accord V6/Acura 3.2CL. However, the latter two are way out of price range compared to the compacts. I love the way the Cobalt drives and I LOVE the attention I get from people who are still trying to figure out what kind of car it is

I have a red 04 cavalier 2.2 turbo, gonna be a track toy. Engine was out being built and I really needed a more sensible daily driver. Since I was already a HUGE fan of this motor, it was a no-brainer.

Called around for a red one, and went down to my local dealer when one arrived. I Liked it that much I drove it home that night. I didn't even test-drive, saw the inside/outside, signed on the lines and drove home.

I like the turbo better, but the SC isn't too bad. We still have some things we can do to liven it up. Every little thing I do it gets stronger, making me like the SS more and more.

Sexy Body, Absolutely Beautiful Interior, Killer Pioneer Sound, Rides on Rails.

Great Car, You won't be disappointed!

I wanted a SRT-4 so bad but then saw the cobalt ss and fell in love. I like the fact that the cobalt ss is not as common as a SRT-4 atleast where i live. :co59:

-The SS is a much more comfortable and refined car to sit in and drive.
-Stereo in the SS sounds a bit better(not really a big deal but it's nice to have a good stereo)
-Exhaust note on the SS is much nicer to listen to than the poppy srt exhaust (I do like the srt's exhaust note tho)
-The tranny smoothness and feel in the SS along with the clutch are way behond the srt as well.
-SS handles much better with a more positive feel and a lot less body roll.
-SS has the oh-so-cool supercharger whine!

My main reason for buying the SS tho...I'm Chevy guy. I couldnt help it.

When I madde my choice, the last to cars on my list where the RSX-Type S and the Cobalt SS.
the SRT-4 was a 4 door and I absolutly hate the B Pillar right at my side blocking my vision, and the I was not all all comfortable sitting in it.

As for as for the Ride the SRT was not all all refined. it was far to rough around the edges for me. sure may have good handling. but why sacrific quality for handleing when you could get both with the SS.

just my 2c

P.S. I picked the SS over the Type S for the obvious Better overall package and still cheaper.

I would have gotten the srt 4 had the dealer not told me that I couldnt test drive it so I left and got the cobalt ss(kelly chevrolet was very nice to my brother who had just bought a colorado crew cab extreme and was just as nice to me). I liked the srt4 and the cobalt ss/sc the same but the srt 4 was faster and had more aftermarket. The only thing I dont like are the seats(my 93 camaro has better fitting seats then the ss/sc) should of gotten the g85 package.

I was goin to get a colorado crew cab but then I saw the ss/sc in person and decided on a car.

I considered the SRT-4 but I've always had a thing against Chrysler. The SS was the best car in the price range for what I wanted and I love the looks and power

Appreciate all the reply's.

I have test drove both. SS yesterday and the SRT4 today and here is what i think.

Seats : Tie. I liked them both

Interior : SS. While the SRT has some nice gauges. The SS's interior looked a lot better

Tranny : This one goes to the SRT4. I felt the SRT was more responsive but that's because it's engine puts out about 60 more pounds of torque.

Engine : SS was seamless and the SRT was like someone kicked me in the ass at around 3000rpm.

Exterior : I like both so Tie

What car am i going to buy? I have no idea yet. The 04 SRT4 is the blue exterior with 7K miles on it going for 18,900. The SS is Silver with 12K miles on it going for 19,200.

The two cars are bone stock. It seems the SRT owner had dyno'd the car before it was traded in on a SRT10 Ram. It put down 240 horsepower and 260lbs of torque. Needless to say i was impressed.

I'd just couldn't see me driving a dodge. Sorry if that offends anyone.

The Cobalt kicks the Neon square in the ***** on everything but performance but won't be too far behind much longer muwhahaha

I was seriously thinking about the SRT4, but the problem is, when you buy a Dodge, then you're stuck with a Dodge.

Also I had been following the Ecotec powertrain very closely for awhile, I kind of already knew what to exect out of it. The SS is very stylish and sexy, I need that....

I never test drove the SRT4. I'm a GM guy. And I don't like turbos because of the lag, the kick in the ass at 3000 RPM. I like the seamless power of the super from idle to red line. I was afraid th SS would be like most 4 bangers with no low end torque. I was wrong and couldn't be happier to admit it.

My other choice was the new GTO. If I had the money I would have bought one. I took me 5 dealerships to test drive an SS, but one to test drive the GTO. I was walked off one lot just for asking to test drive the SS. I guess a long haired 20 year old guy doesn't come off as a serious buyer. Once I did get the test drive, I drove it home that night. My only regret is not waiting to get the Performance package with the LSD. Tires spin pretty easily.

EDIT: I'm glad I didn't get the GTO with the gas increases recently. Plus I can pay for both my insurance and car payment with the $600 it would have taken for the GTO's payment alone.
