renters insurance said its not their responsibility as items were in my car.

Geico said they do not cover items stolen within a car, unless the entire car was stolen, then recovered, and I could prove I paid.

I went shopping at about 8, got home at 9pm or so. Car was broken into sometime between 3am (when me and her went to bed) and 5:30am when the cop found it.

I got a remote control car for my cousin's birthday and I was bringing grocerys in, so my car was out front unlocked, and within that short amount of time while I was inside, someone stole it from the car. Was not as expensive of a loss as you are experiencing, but still sucked. wtf is wrong with people.

You don't have a line item for personal items on your renters insurance? When I rented, I had $10k worth of insurance on my possessions. That would have covered anything stolen from my house, yard, or car...

people are blaming the thefts on the economy? really? wow, the economy has nothing to do with theft. the fact that people dont respect another mans property is whats wrong. You shouldnt have to lock your doors, cover **** up, tint windows, have alarms, but thats the sad state of life in the world right now

I am sure the economy has some portion to do with it, however, the fact that people would take that step to actually commit the crime make them scum.

Sure, money and work is harder to come by nowadays, and I wouldnt mind robbing a bank. Would I actually do it? No.

Yeah, it sounds like this would be the responsibility of the renter's insurance. Like if something's stolen from your car while it's in your driveway, your homeowner's would pay for it if your car insurance didn't, and it typically won't. Sounds like they're trying to weasel their way out of paying. I would go see your agent in person and ask to see your policy.

The economy has the biggest effect on property crimes, there's a lot of research on it. This is why lower socioeconomic areas tend to have higher crime rates. When the economy gets bad, crime spreads. Where my mom lives property crime has tripled in the past 2 years since the economy has gone in the *******.

A person who is going to steal something is going to steal something no matter what, it's just when the economy gets worse, people get more desperate because more people are competing for every dollar out there. Plus, some people who formerly had a job and may not have considered stealing will now steal.

Not saying that's what happened here, it sounds more like a crime of opportunity rather than someone systematically seeking out vehicles to target.

i dont buy the economy ****. i know plenty of people who have lost jobs, and would never resort to stealing. people who steal will do it regardless of whats going on. they are shitty people no matter what the stock market/federal reserve say is going on.

Apartment complex vs rental house might be different.

Shouldn't be. The item I'm specifically talking about is insurance against theft of any of your property and that falls under a homeowners/renters insurance.

the economy has nothing to do with it, it was just some broke jobless ass fool who has no future . My car was broken into a year ago , busted my driver side window to attempt to steal my radio which they couldnt and to add to insult it happened at my cousins house and his neighbors are cops, a total of 5 police officers that live in there and heard nothing.

I thought that if a tree falls on your car when it's in your driveway that it's homeowners'. Now if you're out driving around and this happens then it's auto. Renters' when it's a house covers the house and the property because you're renting both the house and the land but renters' in an apartment only covers the actual apartment not the property because you aren't renting the property. Thus if a tree falls on your car in the apartment parking lot it is not renters' because it's doesn't occur within the covered area(the apartment).

I'm no insurance expert but that's how I see it. I could be wrong.

Now there is the way to go about it. It's easy to provide proof that external lighting should be maintained by management. Plus, YOU THINK YOU KNOW WHO DID IT!!!

So I speak the truth. Glad to hear you will get the bastard. Build the case. Get the police. Get them fucked. $600 is a felony in Iowa. Oops. He can't vote no more.
