Ummmm That depends on the state that your in if your going to be able to do that. Unless you don't care in serving time than whatever, but you better be careful with how you react cause you'll land yourself in jail quick and all because you were angry in the moment and were not thinking. Totally worth the 3-5 yrs in prison, right?

Thus if a tree falls on your car in the apartment parking lot it is not renters' because it's doesn't occur within the covered area(the apartment).

I'm no insurance expert but that's how I see it. I could be wrong.
That's different. Renters insurance doesn't cover the property itself at all. It only covers your personal possessions and liability. Doesn't matter if it's a house, apartment, or condo, they all work the same way. If someone is renting a house and the place burned down for any reason, the renter's insurance would cover the possessions lost in the blaze and the landlord's insurance would cover the structural damage. Same would be true for an apartment or a condo.

For whatever reason insurance companies have deemed that personal property inside a car is not covered under an auto insurance policy (most likely to milk as much cash from customers as possible), so, because homeowners/renters insurance policies are usually umbrella policies for all of your property, it's covered under that.

I went shopping at about 8, got home at 9pm or so. Car was broken into sometime between 3am (when me and her went to bed) and 5:30am when the cop found it.

You shouldn't HAVE to tent the windows.

Lets stop blaming him for leaving valuables where people can see them. It's the criminals fault, not the victums.

He Locked his door. Some one activaly and deliberatly BROKE into his car and stole stuff.

It's cause people dont want to take responsibilty for personal actions. And they dont have respect for some one's property. If your stuff gets broken into, it's not your fault, its hte person who broke into it's fault.

I feel for you bro, and UNDERSTAND, that you might have had other places to go while out and why run back home to go right back out? Sorry to hear about it though, I know I'd be just as furious.

Generally, the rule of thumb is that if it's bolted to the car then it's covered under the auto policy, if it's sitting in the backseat/trunk (golf clubs, tool box, HDTV, BluRay player, etc.) then it's not covered under the auto policy and should be covered under the property insurance.
