Why no automatic turbo ss?
Why no automatic turbo ss?
I'm in search for a new car and would love to own a turbo ss but theirs no way I'm getting another manual. Why didn't gm ever offer an auto on the turbo's? They have them in the HHR but you wouldn't catch me in one of those abominations. Any specific reason?
Probobly because forced induction in automatics is FTL?
I say if your gonna go performance go manual. If your gonna go comfort go automatic and dont worry about how many ponies are in front of you.

My guess is they want to keep the coupes in the "tuner" and "18-30" age bracket where the vast percentage of people that buy an SS coupe want it for the sport, thus want the manual. The sedan comes in automatic doesn't it?
Actually thats not true... Auto's are actually good for Boost (they don't loose boost between shifts)...
Problem is most auto's aren't built for the power output most that buy these cars for. When all we have to do is replace a clutch and they are good!
Unfortunately not
Lady can't drive stick and i'm just done with them. Sitting in traffic with them isn't on my to do list anymore.
I'm looking to spend 25-30K which is why i looked into a turbo ss but the no auto is a deal breaker.

thats why none of the chicks I know drive sticks. Id love to find a blonde that drives a stick though.
I could have sworn when the news of the Turbo SS first broke out, they said that the sedan verion would likely be available with an auto. Does anyone else reading this? Or am I going crazy? Anyway, wonder what made them change their mind.
Well i know that alot of real drag cars have like automatic ratchet shifters and ****, but to me half the fun of driving a performance car *if you can call a cobalt that* is shifting and working the clutch and getting the launch down and shift points and all that good stuff. But i can understand how automatics would be sooo much better when racing but i dont recall see'ing too many forced induction auto's. I picture like old school auto's with 350's and ****. How about paddle shifters! saw the new skyline, or should I say GTR tonight. Paddle shifters would be off the chain. But i guess thats what im looking for and hes not. Hes got a misses that wants to talk on the phone and do makup when driving

as far as automatic performance cars, refer to Camaro, Challenger, Charger, Magnum, Corvette, and a lot of DSG cars like the GLI, etc.
most of these come in manual as well, i was just tryin to make a point

an FI auto wouldnt be any different than an NA auto of the same TQ levels. FYI
the cobalt ss turbo is a performance car heavily aimed at autocross and road racing, and an automatic takes away from that. automatics are horrible for anything but daily driving and drag racing. for what the cobalt is aimed at, an auto doesnt make sence. as for the hhr having an auto, well, really its just to compete with the pt cruiser turbo. and the hhr ss auto is 260hp/226ft/lb instead of 260/260.

Automatic transmissions don't lose boost inbetween shifts, and they're not as archaic as they used to be in the 80's-90's. Not to mention that they are rated higher and don't break as often if cooled correctly.
As far as the average sports enthusiast, 95% prefer stick, so that's what they made.
its odd to limit the torque lower than the stock manual has it in the autos, only to raise it higher than the stock manuals have it with a stage kit. They should just both be 260/260 from the fatcory
PS...watch out for those GN, T-Type, and GNX Buicks...they only came with autos...
