Windshield replacement, $400+?

I got a stone chip in my windshield and it lead to a crack all the way across the windshield. Since PA inspection doesn`t consider patching it with packing tape an acceptable "fix," it looks like I have to have it replaced.
Anyway, I have a couple quotes locally, and they were both for over $400! This is for a 2009 coupe. I did a price quote on safetlite, and even that was around $320. It kinda surprises me because I paid just over $200 for the windshield for my 2001 Trans am...you know, the car with the cab forward design and a windshield with the surface area of a small state?
So anyway, what experiences have you guys had, heard about?

Thanks.

Ive replaced windshields and they usually cost like 120 but they are aftermarket with a blue shade on the top part. But if they are giving you a oem glass i guess i see why is so expensive

Have you tried talking to your insurance company? I have free glass coverage with my policy.

if it makes you feel any better here in Ontario, Canada, for a front windshield replacement with labour would be more then $400. I had to throw $80 just to get them to put that goopie stuff on a crack to stop it from spreading (holding good 3 years later) could of went through insurance but I don't like to claim stuff unless it's necessary(afraid of them increasing rates for whatever reason)

LOL, I hope they're not spreading ricin on your windshield! I think the word you're looking for is resin. It just made me laugh
