yep. it's the same idea for buying a new car to save money on gas. The extra cost of purchasing the vehicle will offset any money save other places.

Savings? = -3000$
new tires on ss/tc 18" rims = $900 at minimum for decent winters (which I needed)
SS MPG = 26 avg
93 oct price = $3.60 ish gal

so instead of dumping an unneeded $900 on tires..

96 cavalier = $950 (with tax, title, licensing)
MPG = 32 avg
87 oct = $3.15 gal
put ss on storage insurance & run liability on cav = $450 savings in a year (figuring storage on ss for 6 months and full coverage other 6 months, keeping liability on cav all year round)
i dont need to worry about letting the engine warm up in the cav for all my short city trips like I would in the SS in this cold (kinda nice)

how is that not saving money? beaters are awesome as they do save you money IF you have a place for a second car that doesnt cost you anything extra. That said, i feel stupid storing a FWD car over winter, but mehh whatever I'm saving a good chunk of change and having a back-up car is always very handy

Lol that's a strong calculation right there, I guess you might have had some savings then, didn't know you needed tires, you could have gotten some steelies with decent thread for 200$ though. Other than that good for you man. That will extend the life of the balt

Same here,

LS w/winter tires = Free
Insurance = $80/month
87 cheaper than 93
winter tires for 18 inch stocks = $700-900 savings

you know what, I will say this, while my rear bumper was getting painted I drove around some busted up 1999 malibu for a week in the winter, and that thing was a riot.

3.1Lv6, colour was rusty, most of the interior was missing plastic, but it was just a damned blast! just bombing through snowbanks, smoking pot holes, parking it wherever, people could ride my ass all day and if there was another dent on it after class? well... not a single Fuq could be given!

I do enjoy having a **** box once and a while

My cobalt is only really stored over winter because I got my accord for next to nothing and don't really care about it, I can park right up at the front when it's cold which is nice because I never park my SS near anybody. And the way I've seen the cobalts even SS depreciate so quickly with high miles you will definitely save money if you had to sell you car for financial reasons .
