Worth modding 2.2 Auto?
torque gets you going HP wins the race though.
Im calling BS. My eclipse has **** stomped riced out 2.2 cobalts but yet been given a helluva run by a new civic SI. We were pretty much even all the way to 95mph. Still honestly not sure who won that race. He had far less torque than I did and an extra gear yet ran right along side me. Sorry but a high 16 second car isnt going to get walked by a high 14 car its going to get aircraft carrier lengths put on it!

low 15's? With bolt ons and a tune on an auto? slips and/or videos? that's a crock. Maybe very high 15's.
On the other hand I do see low 15s possible in an auto 2.2...
With a 50 shot and down a good hill.
Theres no way with just basic bolt ons you shave almost a second and a half off the stock time. Hell Id be happy to do that in my 2.4! Id love it to run a 15 flat or like a 15.2 with full boltons.
whatever your smoking pass it this way!

Methinks you raced an SI badged civic that was really a base model...
V6 in a Cobalt:
I was in dealership and flipped through an accessory type of GM parts book. Had the Cobalt listed among the engine modifications section in it. Apparently, you can put a small block V6 in a Chevrolet Cobalt. The book had a picture of a small block V6 engine block and then just a few more words about parts and part numbers for it. No price listed. Seems I guess you can have it dealer installed maybe?
I was going to take the book, but was a big book to take, not the throw away pamphlet kind.

Its either forced induction or nitrous. Plain and simple.
A full bolt on 2.2 auto will not run anything better than a 15 flat or maybe high 14's with cams. I mean FULL BOLT on unless its forced induction or nitrous. Or being pushed off the side of a very high cliff!
Haha I like the cliff...
That's with the turbo though plain and simple.
I ran low 15s without it though. I just like how people on here say that I didn't beat Civic Si's before hand. That's just dumb.

Now you might be able to beat a B16a2 99-00 SI.
Or even the egg shaped K20 SI (160hp)
But not the newest SI's.
Again.. say what you will and have fun with it
I honestly don't care what you think.
I know everyone down here knows that I have before
the pile of cards is yours if you call bs though.
Have a good one

I say go for it man! First off a 2.2l has more mod options (forged internals, valves/springs, wheels 4x100 same as most tuners) just due to the Cavaliers, Sunfires, etc. that use the same engine (also stronger block over 2.4l since less bore). Don't believe me go to the ecotec forums and see how small the Cobalt community is in there. Plus for $1500 you can be boosted and have cheaper insurance than the SS guys. With that $1500 you also get bigger 60# injectors, bigger/better intercooler, etc. that even the stock SS/sc couldn't touch.
Plus people on here are getting over 250-260whp out of an auto! That is more than the WHP on the stock SS/tc and beyond a stage 2 whp on SS/sc.
What is the deal with this forum and Auto's and everyone hating on the 2.2l? There are plenty of cool cars with autos (even most real drag cars having autos).... example early muscle cars (turbo-hydromatic, powerglides, borgwarner, etc), plus many newer models having cool auto paddle shift transmissions. It isn't like you can't upgrade the Auto either.. hardened parts, shift kits, torque
converters, trans brakes, trans line pressure, shift points, cooler, gear ratios, etc. The auto in the 2.2l is no slouch either since it is also used in 6 cyl cars.
I think the 2.2l ls/lt are more fun to mod and your car would be more of a sleeper.
