2.0 LSJ Engine: Airbox modification
i just need it to my ss/sc took about a one hour. very easy to do, i love the new found sound that the s/c makes, must say a great mod for just $26.37 (the filter is on sale at autozone parts)
just did this.. check engine light came on after about 5 KM, and hasnt gone off yet. Probably going to undo what I did in the next couple days.. Not a fan of that light.. Might actually need it for something important someday
A lil update.. Unplugged the battery for a little over a hour tonight while I was at a buddies. CEL has not yet come back on, and its been about 100 KM's. I will definitally keep you updated as this is my "test" before I go and get a real CAI.
On a side note about your cruise.. I have had problems with it not working since day 1. They have finally fixed it which involved replacing the clutch pedal. Been working like a champ ever since. I dont really use it much anyways. I find it really hard to keep my foot off the gas pedal in this car
But I really doubt your cruise not working has anything to do with your airbox mod. Unless you f'd something else up along the way.

Has anybody had any problem of getting watter in the engine? I want to do this but when it rains where I live the streets tend to get alot of high water. I am questioning the cai deal. I really want GM to put out stage 2 I will buy that for sure.
Sorry to ***** up the thread.. But its been a couple days, and a couple hundred Km's and the light has not come on after unhooking the battery. I guess this car is one of the good ones.. lol. CAI here I come.

the filter is a good 14-18" of the ground if you drive thru water that deep then you WILL have a problem.
The cel problem is weird, I have done extensive data logs on this and the problem really seems to be from injectors that are just big enough for stock. reminds me of the 2003 SRT-4's that had smaller injectors and regularly ran lean, but in 04 they bumped the injector size up and the lean went away. That was why the 03's generally ran like raped apes, cause they were WAY lean.
Unfortunately if you get a cel with this you will still get it with a CAI most likely.
On the flip side you might get a cel with a cai and not with this, it is almost a crap shoot!
This code is even showing up with people that just change air filters straight, even without excess oil.
The MAF readings are not showing any kind of oil contamination, it is the B1 O2 that is reading the lean condition.
As with any mod the risk is ours to take.

I just removed the bottom piece of the airbox and went for a drive tonight. Took me about 1.5 hours of actual work time (not including racing around laughing at the sound). Same results, bit more power and a lot louder SC.
I'd like to add something for after you've removed the bottom of the airbox. When you're replacing the tire bay liner, it will be easier to squeze the panel into all the nooks and crannies if you fasten the screws for the panel section that is directly under the filter. I fastened everything in the actualy wheel bay before this, and it made it pretty difficult to get all of the edges in place.
This is definetly the thing to do before you go and get an aftermarket CAI. $200 bucks to spend on something else, and if you decide to later, you can still install the CAI.

I did this too , just to see what would happen. I'm going to pick up a k&N filter today, but in the meantime wanted to see this. Its louder I guess, but i only really notice in the 4800 - 5500 range , i'm hoping the k&N will take the sound down a bit on the RPM range. I did notice a little power actually when i took it out on the highway , stil hard to tell a lot so i'll also compare witht he k&N drop in. I did this once already and then put it back on cause i didn't notice a whole lot.
Also, I've been trying to track down what folks have been seeing on Injen vs. K&N, vs AEM for dyno numbers if any. Also install. I am reading on this thread that folks believe that changing the filter out to a K&N cone or AEM will net same/similar results to say the full CAI or Injen set-up.
Is Injen really getting the claimed 16-17HP boost as it's biggest gain? I still see the peak around 9HP same as all the others on the market. Is there anything about them that is legit on being better? Otherwise I am going with AEM I like the idea of Dry flow filter and have a brute force on my '05 Silverado 5.3L and it took a week or so to notice but I got a nice gain from the dyno in the seat of my pants! ;-)
