How To: Adjust your Hurst or B&M Shifter
OK so I've seen a few threads lately about adjusting the side to side throw (5th gear and reverse are far to the right and the reverse lock out doesn't work or barely works) on the STS's so I decided I would help everyone out and I went out and took a picture of the cables for everyone and this is the cable you need to adjust (circled in red)...
Take a sharpie marker and mark the shaft of the cable directly in front of the white connector I have circled (Gives you a reference point to go back to if it gets worse or you want to go back to the stock shifter). Then pull up on the tab at the front of the shifter and you can then move the shaft of the shifter cable in and out without moving the shifter. In my case 5th gear was way far to the right when compared to the other gears and reverse lock out still worked but the cable was stretched to the max. I moved the cable only about 1/4 out of the connector and locked it and tried it out and it was pretty much perfect. If you have problems with how it sits front to back you would basically do the same thing with the other cable until it's in the position you desire (I didn't have to adjust front to back travel when I installed mine). I would only do adjustments in 1/8" increments so that you don't adjust it too far the other way. Well I hope this helps...

i just tried installing the b&m short throw tonight and ran into the problem where i can only get it into 5th if i use the reverse lock out and i cant get it into reverse at all. i noticed that the cable to the right wasn't aligned with my marking and when i tried to adjust it i couldn't get the clamp to clip because it was trying to clip around the yellow threaded plastic covering on the end of the cable. the cable to the left is at the proper mark however. any ideas? and is it me or is this "short throw" seem...well not so short?

so being the psycho that i am with my car, i went to bed thinking about it last night and woke up and had the craving to work on it again before work and i took Taz's advice and adjusted the right cable a little bit and it works like a charm now. 1 through 5 are perfect and reverse couldnt be any better. but i still thought shift points wouldnt be as long as they are.
