Other/Misc: HOW TO: Antenna Mod
i did another way, i just cut off from the middle and too the ball off, then filed down the tip to accept the ball and one good hit to the ground and presto! shorty antanna, cost me nothing i'll post a pic up tomorrow.
my '77 el caminos factory antenna runs in the glass of the windshield up the middle, then outwards accross the top. i got more stations clearer with that than my cobalts antenna. i'm shaving the cobalts off smooth and going for the hideaway.
this might be my temporary fix till that happens.

my antenna
Thanks for taking the time to write out a how-to!
Just a NOTE (my .02 on the matter) -- there have been more than a few owners who's antenna did not come off with a simple twist. If the antenna does not loosen with a simple twist do not keep turning until the entire antenna assembly begins to turn! I've seen it where the antenna assembly gets turned and breaks the pinch welds off of the antenna body mount/bracket in the trunk. It is either from corrosion or cross threading when the antenna was installed -- if that happens you need to hold the antenna body in the trunk while trying to twist off the antenna.

you can also cut it short, use the same vaccuum caps...and put it back on
and for that matter..if you are leaving the antenna off..then screw the rag, just put the plyers on there and twist!
exactly...
i did mine like that...but before putting the ball back on i added some vaccuum tube and built it up so it was fatter, then i drilled out the ball end and glued it back on...then reprayed it black... worked like a charm!!!
will get pics on next break
