you don't need to chop them unless you want to. just unscrew the thing. the company is vacu-tite, and the part number was 47393. they're 1/4" openings
hmm... donno who would carry them around here... don't really wanna take the whole thing off, still listen to the radio the odd time just wanna shrink it down some because it's soo hedious!...but if worst comes to worst i can always order a shorty from ARK but this way would be a hell of alot cheaper
or coarse its not gonna come off with a simple twist haha. its screwed on about 3/4" of an inch. and if your turning to where "I've seen it where the antenna assembly gets turned and breaks the pinch welds off of the antenna body mount/bracket in the trunk." that happens, you're trying to unscrew the wrong part.
so i was at crsppy tire today getting some clear coat and sand paper so i can get my taillights ready for tinting and i say what the hell i'll look for those vacuum caps and see if i can find em!! sure enough in the "help" section there was a variety pack of all different sizes! and i got the 1/8 in the pack so i'm thinking tomorrow i will be chopping the antenna and gettin er done!!!
hooray!!!
so i did this mod!! took me like 5 mins!! i chopped mine down to 8 inches!! reception is good on all of the 6 preset channels except 1 which is the country station in the city (which is about 50 min drive from my house) i really like the looks of it!! alot better then that hedious one b4... and it only cost me about 5 bux
I did mine and I was still able to get my normal channels but thats because the radio station isactually in my town lol. But I listen to xm or my music off my phone so it really doesnt' matter. Besides it looks a hell of a lot better without that tall antenna.
Hello, I tried to take my antenna off, I was thinking about getting an shorty antenna, but then i ran across this. Since all the radio stations that I listen too are within 5-30 miles of where Im located, and with my ability to listen to mp3, usb, and ipod, I decided to do this.
But heres the kicker, I can't remove my effn antenna. It looks like from reading it should loosen with a small turn, but it wont budge. Ive already tried holding the antenna portion in the trunk, ala someone else said earlier in the post. So what should I do.
btw..its a 2006 Cobalt LT.
