You need to hook up two grounds and a power wire to cluster when removed from vehicle. Strongly only recomend this to people good with wiring and that have the proper terminals to hook to cluster

FYI, I tried to remove the blue "film and have had no luck. I believe it is the colour of the plastic and not a covering. I could be wrong though.
Has anyone done this with LEDs other than blue?

ok so I got the Super Bright LEDs from Oznium and they worked great.
I bought green and even with the blue film it still shows up green. They are not 12V so I needed to solder resistors on them and that was a little cramped to have them fit but they got in there okay.
I used a red 12V LED for the red on section of the temp controls and it looks good.
I will post pictures tomorrow but I have a problem with the unit now.
When my car is off, the yellow lights for the AC button and the air re-circling button stay lit but when I turn the car on, the yellow lights go off and when I hit the buttons for AC, rear defrost, and air re-circling the lights do not come on.
Any ideas?

I wouldnt mess with the radio lights, just get some stained glass paint and spray the backside of the face, its really easy to screw something up when you change those. The window control lights arent hard to do but you will need soldering skills to do it.
A 5mm can be used on the driver side window control and a 3mm can be used on the rest of them. Some of the lights are covered by the part that plugs into the control so you will have to de-solder that piece to even get at the light contacts, before you go taking that piece off you need to figure out which is + and which is - . You can get 12v leds from led-switch.com.
