Nice work!

Here is a good place to find those LED strips:

My project is coming soon.

That reverse light housing is separated for the white and red, is the outside housing separate too? for the bulb then the red around it. do you happen to know?

outside housing like the inside of the reverse lights? No.
BUT there is a inner wall that works really well to secure the lights.
And the red and white will stay together if you're careful.

outside housing like the brake lights? No.

On a different note,
I did this last month, and my recommendation is that you get the 19" LED strips from oznium.com, and cut them to size. i have no gap between LEDs, and it looks much better in my opionion.

I also did a little wiring with diodes and resistors to make the LEDS work like dual-filament bulbs, so they're dimmer for running lights and full brightness for turn signals and brake lights. I'm really happy with the results. if anyone wants more details, i'll be happy to do a write-up in a couple of days. it only took about $10 of stuff from radio shack and ripping the trunk apart, which was already done anyway.\

So in summary, thanks for the writeup, it was great and definitely helped me get started on the project.
And the housings seperate into the reflector/inside the car part and the colored lens/outside the car part.

Is the original brake/turn signal housing separate like that? or is it just one giant area?

has a dividing ring seperating the reverse light from the othe area. i just glued the light to the inner edge of the outside ring and ran the wiring back through the little slot next to the reverse light

yeah you could get the ipcw led tails that already have the area around the back up light filled with leds but they cost like 300 and imo dont look good enough to pay that much for..

I might as well add this here. I highly recommend this mod as it's like super easy to do. The hardest part is taking the stupid lights apart. Other than that, it's cake, and looks sweet especially at night. I completed my mod but I went one step further and made the lights running and brake lights using a resistor and a few diodes.
