Finsihed mine tonight. OMG pain in the ass. hacking up reverse lights is not for the faint hearted but i finally did it, wired it up to parking lights. Dont have resistors or **** because I dont want them as turn signals. The uneven blinking bothers me a little and I just like the always on thing. It does kinda illuminate the center part but since my lights are heavily nightshaded it looks bad ass.

And I got 9.5" LED strips wich were too short so I had to cot and sodder and ugh. nightmare lol. PIC!

^Its not bad its just finding the right LED's and removing the sealant between the lense and the housing. The 2nd one went alot faster than 1st.

Has anyone tried to make them fully functional by using two sets of LEDs like use the red ons for the running lights & then get the brightest white ones to use for the signals & brake lights?

I have found a couple of sets of LEDs & the first set I tried were to tall causing the light to bleed into the reverse light area so Now I'm going to try a set more like the ones used in this how to

WFLB96 series 96-LED Waterproof Flexible Light Bar
http://www.superbrightleds.com/light_bars-flexible.html

I found a set I can cut to length as far as every 3 leds have a cut area, so I was thinking about going with 2 sets per light? Any thoughts on this?

Yeah you could definately do it with the two sets of leds. Or you could try the other way, by building a small curcuit board like i did. The scematics of this board are posted up on the other LED taillight how to, a couple pages in. This way only requires one set of leds.

This is a great Idea & write up as I just got mine done & I was thinking about also doing the outside lights to match but was woried about the LED life span & having to replace them.

I did get the WFLB96 series 96-LED Waterproof Flexible Light Bar I listed in the above post & it worked great & I used red as these leds are 1/4" tall & I was afraid of the white bleeding into the reverse light area. And instead of a drill I had a dremel with a drillbit & it worked great to romove the seal or glue.

Thanks again for the How to & idea as I love the looks of it heres a picture

Well I cracked mine open today... I wouldn't say the job was overtly hard, here's a protip:

Pierce the sealant and use a screw driver to pry it up so it comes out as 1 long strip of sealant. The hardest part is that initial piercing then its cake walk after. Using a hairdryer helps a lot and prevents the strip from breaking. Also, WD40 makes the job go a lot quicker.

Hairdryer, man. I'm just wondering, does anybody know a good place to buy the LED strips in Toronto? I don't feel like ordering online... Also, How long of a strip do I need to do a full 360 for one light?

has anyone tried this with putting the lights pointing outward instead of upward? as in towards the outside of the light and not towards the red lens? like this

I'm thinking this might eliminate any chance of getting light in the reverse part and would give you a better spread of light because it would use the entire reflector to illuminate the red lens

did you not see the pictures in the first post? there is no light that comes through the reverse light area.if you were to turn the lights 90 degrees like your thinking you will waste the light on lighting up the outter edge of the trunk lid around the light.the output of the light will be focused on the edge of the light /trunk instead of focusing it straight out of the light.

this way works....its a very sipmle mod..... and it looks great once its done.

you are more then welcome to use my write up to do your adaptation of these lights......but when you fail, dont reflect it on my thread
