P.S. some one needs to make a how to on this but the upper grill.
No problem.

I have been wanting to try the upper grill, but have not had time with work and school. Perhaps this summer. Just a warning though, it will most likely be more complicated than the lower grill.

Hi Folks -

My local Lowes did not have the stucco mesh lath - so I am working on some stainless mesh a friend thinks he has enought to do the opening - 350 miles and the condenser looks like it was in a war.....

best regards -

I'm not positive, but I think the 2.4 also has the holes for the lower extention. You will have to take a look for yourself. If it does then you are in luck. All you have to do is get the clips or use another similar clip to hold the bottom piece.

Besure to let us know if it does in case other 2.4 owners want to do the same.

I lost my lower grille on the interstate, guy in front of me drove over what was left of a semi tire (retread) and launched it into the air. I hit the brakes but to no avail, it landed on the nose leaving a nice gouge in the paint and when it went up under the car it punched out the poorly designed lower grille. I then proceeded to drive over all of it..... So nice post, as I think your method of protecting the radiator is stronger than GM's cheesy snap in.

I don't know if it is stronger or not, but it is a hell of a lot cheaper to buy and replace.

Yea man one sheet of that stuff and a can of spray paint would do it at least 3 times.

Having problems finding the mesh, none at the Lowe's I went to. Anyone have the actual name off the product tag or the part number (not SKU cause hard to pull up online).

I was unable to find it online. I think it is more of a regional thing. I had someone from Florida PM about it because they looked at every Lowe's Home Depot etc. to find it, but had no luck.

JC Whitney has more expensive pre-colored versions. http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/B...002181/c-10101

Found it at Home Depot, the name it goes by is Galvanized Lathe. I have the home depot part number if needed by anyone.

I went to the gutter section and got a piece of the aluminum gutter screen, pretty stiff. with the pins through it it is definitly in there more than the original grille was and I do believe it will be harder to punch out. Not to mention the screen will do a more efficient job of stopping objects from hitting the radiator than the original "twin bar" grille did.

So where do you attach the zip ties when installing the metal mesh?

I didn't use any. I used all the factory trim clips.

Cobalt supercgarged did you just slide the retaining clips through the holes in the mesh to secure it? How lone did you cut the mech to fit? Great write up cause I need to do this.

yes slide the clips through the mesh. As for size I cut mine about 5-6 inches bigger then the hole on both sides then trimmed any that showed

I just made and intalled my second grill on Blow 4-banger's car this past weekend. Glad I put this on here because I had to reference it again to get the size.

The rough dims are in my first post 10" x 33". That is slightly large, but better to be too big than too small. You will have to trim the corners off the bottom in order to get it to wrap under properly. Make the bends and get the top secured and then trim it until it fits.

Yes I slid the clips through the holes in the mesh. The 2 top clips are larger and require you to cut the mesh to make a larger hole, similar to as shown below.

I sprayed my mesh with black rubber "undercoating" That should help, but I really haven't looked at it since I put it on. Perhaps I should do that. You could probably lay down some rubber gasket material if you wanted. The places where it would scratch are not visible.
