2.2 L61 Engine: HOW-TO: Mod 2.2/2.4 AirBox
hey guys...me and one of my buddies that has a ss/sc(inhale).we made a custom cai for my car. we used the stock air box.. and ran pipin from a k&n e1009 filter to the air box in the engine bay. it sounds insane and repsonds so much better. this week we might be doing a custom ram air so more air flows to the filter....ill get pics asap
yeah lsjunky...dude its a great mod. im ona lease so i dont want to be cuttin my air box. it was about a 100dollar mod and works amazing. i can feel the diffence past 3000rpm and u can hear the filter suck all the air in. its a great mod and it took about umm 45min to install. ill take pics durin the week when i the bottom of the car apart for my ram air.
Allow me first to mention that this is NOT my original Idea. I stole what penquinpie and others had done and hopefully made it a little easier to grasp.
FIRST
Get a SPARE airbox top. Don't use your only one. You'll need it for service visits and just in case you mess up.
SECOND
Cut the box top and sides off. the idea is to leave the tube the MAF goes into and a little lip to keep the filter from slipping off.

THIRD
Attach a filter. I used a 3.5 inch AEM DryFlow. a 3.0 inch WILL fit... if you CRAM it on.

THATS IT. these guys aren't kidding when they say it's easy to do. now, watch the Video.

What did you use to fill in the gap between the pipe and the 3.5" Dryflow filter????
the 3.0 was alittle too small and the 3.5 was a little too large, but if you look, there is a lip to the end of the tube. tighten the hell out of it, and it seals better than i thought that it would. you can also use the 3.0, but it's a bitch to get on and off.
a lot of turns of the clamp screw.

it's still expensive on ebay. I only paid 50 bucks to put a intake on my taurus. I'm not gonna spend 300 bucks on something that's not gonna do much for my car. might as well buy a 300 dollar type r decal, slap it on the truck and say it adds 5hp it would be the same thing.....all it does is slightly make the car sound better it don't make much difference in power...and just drains your gas running wot... and won't benefit you that much if you don't have the exhaust to go with it which on top is another 300 bucks. 300 is waaay too much for an intake.
