2.2 Suspension: How-To: Replace Your Brake Pads
How-To: Replace Your Brake Pads
Heres Another How-to Enjoy.
How To: Replace Your Brake Pads
Tools Required:
Socket Wrench
14mm Socket
C-Clamp
Brake Pads
Jack
Jack Stands
Lug Wrench/Impact Wrench
Lets Get started....
1) First step is to untorque your lug nuts but DO NOT UNSCREW THEM. I picked up this handy 12v impact from walmart for cheep, untorques the lugs in seconds.

2) Now jack up your car and place a jack stand under it. I used stock jack as i left my real jack in my girls car.

3) Now unscrew all the lugs and remove your wheel.
4) Take your socket wrench and 14mm socket and undo the bolts pictured. theres only 2.

5) Carefully slide off the center part of the caliber and DO NOT let it hang. Simply place it on top of your rotor so there is no tension on the brake line.

6) Simply slide out the old pads and slide in the new ones. Make sure there in the right way as they should follow the curve of the rotor.

7) Take your C-Clamp and gently clamp it to the piston and the back side of the caliber and tighten it till the piston is pushed back into the caliber. This is NOT how its supposed to be done but this was all i had. works fine.

8) Re-attach the caliber and tighten the screws back in. Get in your car and turn it on. Now pump the hell out of the brake petal till you feel it getting harder and harder to push. Take your car out and enjoy new found braking you had at first test drive
BTW HUGE probs to Uneek with there excelent rotors and these brake pads. I would suggest PMing uneek for all your rotor and pads needs!.
Here are my uneek rotors after 10k miles.

Light surface rust from my rims. otherwise no rust at all!
Here is a comparison shot of stock pads and the uneek pads.

^^^ seems like i still had alot of life left on my stock pads after 47k miles. but wanted an upgrade anyway to go with the rotors.
If you kill yourself i am not responsible. If you injure yourself...oh well.

Approved.
I already did a front brake job how-to once:

But there are lots of other repeat how-tos.

Other than that question, nice write-up man! I need to do my breaks soon myself.
FYI, when you push the piston back in, you're supposed to loosen the bleeder screw so that whatever fluid you push back does NOT force debris back into the ABS pump. After the pads are changed, you're supposed to bleed the system again rather than just pump up the brakes. YMMV.
I just bought a Cobalt LT a couple months ago with 88K kms, at about 90K kms the right rear drum ceased. Had to get whole new assembly from the dealer cause I hate drum brakes.
