The Rockford Fosgate p3 10" shallow mount sub, is rated to .5 cubic foot on their website for a sealed enclosure and the mounting depth is 3.5 inches. Before I go and sell my old stuff and buy the shallow mount sub. Does anyone see any problems with mounting this in the pioneer enclosure?

Instead of doing anything with the stock system ill leave it how it is, but I need to be able to have a signal from the stock headunit. Won't I need an adapter to get a signal to the amplifier? Does anyone know what the name of the adapter would be? Using rca audio cables to a mono amplifier.

Good stuff thanks guys I was thinking the same .5 at best but just wanted to see if anyone els had the numbers. Reason being is im trying to ether reverse install a new type R 10" but from my understanding it won't do me any good id be better off with a smaller sub that meets the .5 requirements and give a better sound. What do you guys think?

lol

I ordered a Pioneer shallow mount 10" sub, but just for ***** and giggles I decided to wire up the factory sub to my Pioneer 400 watt (180 watt rms) amp in a 4 ohm load like this:

I must say, it hits pretty hard and doesn't distort at all. I barely touched the gain.

I might even return the sub I ordered it sounds so good, lol.

This is the one I was going to replace the stock sub with:
TS-SW2501S2|S4 - 10" Shallow-Mount Subwoofer with 1200 Watts Max. Power | Pioneer Electronics USA

Yup, I did that too and it hits pretty nice. I have it connected to a pioneer mono amp and it hasn't blown up yet. I have the gain maybe 1/4 turn and it bumps not super loud but enough for me to enjoy the bass, and a bit to rattle the rear deck lid. I've had it like this for about a year or so.

Nice man. Yeah my gain is like 1/8 of the way up. Probably going to return that sub I ordered, or sell it on ebay lol

Stock amp on cars with the factory pioneer stereo is in the dash on the drivers side behind the little cubby with the trunk release.

What's the factory sub rated at RMS wise? I'm sure that factory amp isn't pushing it at all.

Sorry for old thread revival but there is some pretty good info here and i need to know if my amp will suit for this application

And here is the amp i have buyed a JBL GT5-A3001

With those specs:

GT Series Class AB Monoblock Car Amplifier
RMS Power Rating:
4 ohms: 175 watts x 1 chan.
2 ohms: 225 watts x 1 chan.
1 ohm: 300 watts x 1 chan.

So if i understand well i have to bridge my stock sub to 4ohms right?

Yes, if you connect the subwoofer how it is on the picture you will running the subwoofer at 4 ohms. Or since your amp can go as low as 1 ohm, you can connect the subwoofer in parallel and you can run it at 1 ohm for more watts. I dont know how long it would run before if froze on you but it would definitely give it some punch.

do whats in the picture. The amp can handle 1 ohm but the sub cant handle 300w. It will give u that punch but not very long
