Hey guys, please be patient. I'm sending someone to check on the welders today. If all is good, we move on to electropolishing. Won't be long now..

But how long do you think? Will we see these at the end of the month? Or early June maybe.

It baffles me how many people have no concept of lead time....

Ok, I am going to be the one to step out here... since I have no concept of lead time, be a dear and please explain it to me. I am hoping it has nothing to do with patience, because if that's the case then I think you are mistaken. Blanket statements don't fix anything.

Lead time - "is the time it takes to actually manufacture the order without any inventory other than raw materials or supply parts" and "includes the time required to ship the product to the purchaser".

When running a lean or batch manufacturing environment, lead time is a very critical factor. Small businesses generally run off this concept, as they have very little storage space to house a large amount of inventory, and can offer better deals to the customer with higher volume orders.

So it's a toss up, wait out the lead time, OR pay the increased rate due to either storage costs / inventory or small volume production.

So from what you are saying, your last statement is kind of unfair. If we were going by the original lead time, that would been back at the end of last month. I have been on this, watching and reading the updates patiently for a few months now. I understand the concept, but it is hard for me to have my arms flailing in the wind waiting for something to be released. I don't have the luxury to be able to go home after work everyday, and I have to know when something is coming so I can make arrangements for it to be picked up or signed for if necessary.

Well... unfair or not, that's manufacturing.
My entire career is not only about the design stages of manufacturing, but trying to cut down on costs, fast production and assembly methods, and of course lean manufacturing (involving lead times).
It's sad that things do get pushed back, but there is little that you can do about it... your stuck with what your outsourced company can do for you... in JBP's case, the out sourced welders.

It does become difficult for the customer in some cases... however think of this situation; Last year on a hydrogen fill station project, I was held up becasue our high pressure tank supplier was running 8 weeks late on their production run due to a failed machine, thus pushing back my time to build the rack and place it on site. By the time everything showed up, it was already snowing outside, and our site construction had to be delayed until spring, past our delivery date. One of our major stakeholders pulled out due to us blowing the deadline.... we lost $300k of funding.
Who was to blame for a blown lead time? Us? The tank supplier? The maker of the machine?
I hope people remember this story when getting a delayed part.... no matter how big of a rush your in, it's not like loosing a 1/4 million.

Omega, I understand the process now. But if no one explains, then no one else knows. I am still learning a lot and I only know the military philosophy. If we can't produce right away, regardless of the reason, then we are broke or retarded and we get replaced right away. Different worlds if you know what I mean.

Yes !!!

It's gonna be a shipping race between getting this header and getting an already ordered intake through another recent GB.

And this is a much more sophisticated manufatured piece - I think!

(Brand not to be mentioned - but you know...)
