Crank pulley...

Just wondering, I did do a search and didn't find anything in reguards to a different sized crank pulley to up the boost with out changing the SC pulley. When I was a part of the MR2 community, they didn't make a lot of different pulley's so people would buy a SC pulley that gave them 12 psi, then a smaller (i think) crank pulley to give them 2 more psi. Anybody heard of that?

I know that the lighter pulley can free up some ponies on the crank due to lighter weight. but i think the j body one i looked at said that it kept the original belt size, thus not makeing it smaller, and not spinning the blower any faster. i could see it makeing the blower boost faster... thats about it.

Your right, it would spin the blower faster causing more PSI, but we are already over spinning the blower with a 2.5... But maybe for a short distance, like a 1/4 mile, you could get a little extra with a crank pulley and a 2.5? I dunno just wondering, at work and just popped into my head when I was on the MR2 forums

Anything lower than a 2.7 has already pushed an M62 out of it's efficiency range and past it's max RPM. Why would you want to do that? The idea behind power is CFM, not PSI. I would recommend increasing flow at the week points, like the exhaust ports on the head. A good P&P will be much more efficient and less detrimental to your engine's longevity...

I know what your saying, I was just stating to see if anyone has thought about it. With a good P&P, it would be more efficient.

I think people have thought about it, it's just not the best way to go about doing things. Our aftermarket is growing by the minute, which is bringing us more and more oportunities to do things the right way...

I got ya. Well I didn't plan on doing the Crank pulley, just after reading how someone got a Nevo 175mm pulley for their '89 SC MR2, it made me think of my cobalt and if anyone did this before

Edubs, With a P&P on the head + A P&P on the blower, would the 2.6 still be over spinning it?

Depends if you have someone rebuild the blower w/ better bearings and coatings...

Interesting. Matt had mentioned after all the work I wanted I should go 2.6... but I wasn't planing on anything ubder 2.7... he seemed ok with it....

I think i'll still keep it at 2.7 tho

Honestly, having the blower rebuilt should raise the maximum redline and efficiency somewhat. With appropriate cooling mods and possibly water/meth, it wouldn't kill ya to go 2.6

I've never been afraid to do something that Matt suggests. Everything is up to you though. 2.7 would still probably be better for blower life, but who's countin'...

**** a 2.7" is plenty, it not like this motor can get over 300whp on stock internals without blowing up anyway
