Sub 40whp huh evolve? If thats the case then I'll be able to whip your ass when you get back to Va. lol. I've been keeping up with your vadriven posts. Awesome job staying with the Cobra. Those things are no joke. When we all went to the dyno saturday there was one just finishing up and he got 590whp. Then he proceded to spin tires all the way down a half mile road.
if it started at all the timing probably wasnt that far off. i know first hand if you get that motor off by more than 2-3 teeth or so it will smack the valves. if it did hit the valves i dont really see the car being able to start, what with not having any compression on the cylinders it hit and all. cylinders 1 and 4 move together as do 2 and 3 so if it hit you probably have no compression on 2 cylinders. your best bet is to do a compression test. an easy way to check to see if the intake valves are bent is to remove the cover on the throttle body and then the fuel pump relay so it wont start and crank the engine, if the intake valves are bent youll feel air being forced out the throttle body.

dude the car is fine just need to work on it some more timing is'nt fun nore easy i did'nt hear any knocking or whatever elles everyone is telling you dude don't get upset to easy just keep doing it untill it works
it seems more like the timing is off a little and its backfiring than the valves being bent. you can always get a compression tester and do a compression test real quick to be sure but it sounds like you need to pull the valve cover and timing cover off and make sure the timing is set properly. if you decide to do that make sure you put the chain tensioner in the backside of the head back in before you hand crank the engine to make sure it doesnt hit because if you leave the tensioner out the slack in the chain will cause it to jump a few teeth off on the intake cam which will put an end to those valves and possibly the head/piston depending on how hard it hits. just fyi, even if you hit the valves when you crank it, it usually wont be hard enough to damage the head or pistion, itll usually just bend the valves which are like $15 a piece. youll just have to get the special tool for that too, but at least you wont need a new head and/or motor.
