Ideas for Va Beach and Tidewater region Cobalts

My wife and I have been thinking about changing our residency because income tax in Utah is one of the highest in the country. That's why I asked my question. Regardless, if we do keep our Utah residency Virginia cannot enforce other states laws. Therefore, I could not legally recieve a ticket for 5% tint on the rear windows if I remain a Utah resident while/if my wife is stationed in Virginia. Any cop who tries that is an idiot, especially when I show them my Utah DL.
Our tint LOOKS dark as hell, but its the Texas legal limit. I've passed cops all the time and even sat next to them. Never had them say anything.

same here. i had 35% all around with my ohio plates and have had cops drive past me. side next to me. and as long as im not doin nothin crazy then im good and cesar with a mullet would be hilarious
if you get pulled over for anything like speeding or running a red light etc... and they see that you have really dark tint, they will pull out the meter and give you a ticket for your tint on top of the original ticket you were gonna get!

The idea you have is nice, but unrealistic. Here is an example. You get pulled over for suspicion of driving drunk, you show the cop, a Virginia one, your drivers license and he has to let you go because you have a Utah license....NOPE..!! aint gonna happen. You'll get a ticket for DUI if you're over the legal limit for Virginia, which is 0.08.
So, the dreams you were having aren't reality.
oh u have no idea. i dont sit in a hot ass leather sweaty seat. the suede is comfy as is the cloth that surronds it. the back of the headrest has leather and the seats have a leather outlining but i love sliding into my comfy seats.

Just giving you a heads up on some of the retarded laws here. I've been battling with this crap for about 8 years now. Trust me I've seen the out of state registration laws for a lot of different things here. I use to try the same thing when I had PA tags on my car.
Let's hold this subject for discussion later. I'm headed over to the law library at the University of Utah right now to get the final word on this. I'll let you guys know what I come back with later. I just happen to have experience and family (including in-laws) who were police officers. One actually worked in Newport News and still has her uniform to this day. If I find something absolute I will post the code for you.
I'm trying to throw you under a bus blackngold, but your link is an opinion from an officer who really doesn't know much. Please scroll down to the bottom of this link and read the last 2 paragraphs: http://www.vsp.state.va.us/Safety.shtm
Here is all the info somebody in the military and their spouses would need:
http://www.dmv.state.va.us/webdoc/ci...ide.asp#permit
The only problem I can see, and will get more clarification about later, is that it says I can remain a Utah resident and use my Utah license. However, I may have to register the cars in VA because they are co-owned and I will not be active military while I am there. If you scroll down to "Vehicle Titling & Registration." The problem I see is that it implies I will be giving up my residency rights for UT in place of VA while at the very top it states I can keep my Utah residency. It is interesting and I will be contacting them. As it is stated in the law. If my car is registered in another state it is considered deemed safe to operate on public highways.
I have sent the dmv in VA an email to find out what they have to say.
I, also, just sent the VA safety inspectors office, of the VSP, an email concerning this subject. I hope to hear from them soon too.

So, if I'm speeding in one state, with an out of state driver's license, driving a car registered in a 3rd state, I can ignore the ticket?
I've been good for a long time but this guy's making it real hard.

I would love to do the show but I just dont wanna detail the car, lol. I have it all day tomorrow so if I get too bored I can at least clean the outside. Can't wash the car cuz someone took all our water hoses to work and hasn't brought them back...not naming names.
Warren, if for some reason I do decide to find $20 for registration and do show up, do you think we could arrange to meet up so we can park next to each other? You know have the cobalts representin' together. You'll be doing an NFL theme and I'll do my college theme, hehe. I have to talk to the hubby about doing the show. PM me your number and I'll get back to you on it by tomorrow(friday) night. I already have my registration card cuz of last year. We will see what happens. I just have to figure out how to hide the big scuff mark on the rear passenger tire from a curb check. Hehe!

1) Driving offenses are different than equipment offenses. All drivers are subject to driving offenses within the jurisdiction you commit them.
2) Unless you are in Tennesse or Alaska, your offense will appear on your record.
oh, and blackandgold, I just realized that I had a typo in my last message. I meant to say that I'm not trying to throw you under the bus. Somehow I messed up and failed to type the word "not." Sorry.
Here's the actual law code
http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp...+cod+46.2-1052
http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp...+cod+46.2-1052
The second issue, that statute has wording that is unclear such as the word "affixed." Affixed is both a noun and a verb. Since the legal system doesn't refer to Websters Dictionary I would have to find out which defenition they are referring to by consulting Black's Law Dictionary. Therefore, I see a possible loop-hole. I also see another loop-hole because those laws apply to VA residents. I do not have to claim VA residency while my wife is active in the military. Both Utah and VA state that. I have already provided the link. I would like to see statutes that apply specifically to military personnel. I am still looking for them. Utah has laws just like VAs that you guys have shown me. For example, our tint laws are 50/5. However, Colorado has 20/20. If military personnel claiming residency in Colorado and stationed in Utah (both have large AF bases) have their windows tinted to the legal limit of Colorado then Utah cannot do anything. Same with Arizona, Texas, and any others that apply.
Also, I just remembered that my sis just had to renew her vehicle registration recently and is a Utah resident and had her vehicle tested in VA. Her Durango has blacked out windows. VA safety inspectors didn't give her any trouble, nor has she ever been pulled over for it either. She may be low ranking enlisted personnel, but she still drives to my in-laws in the southern end of Chesapeake quite often. I've asked her for her input too.

domin8_gt, theres no limit on tint with SUVs and trucks, just cars. wonder were the hhr fits in which category. dude, were only trying to look out for yea by giving you a heads up on these things.
GAS, if u need it, try getting out to york town, its $.05~10 cheaper out there. ive still manage to keep my fill ups under $40 so far!

ROFL! I never said that. Where did you get that from. In fact two things that make you wrong.

2) Unless you are in Tennesse or Alaska, your offense will appear on your record.

There are 2 problems I have with the set of statutes that law is paired with. (I have seen the whole section thanks to VSPs website) They are specifically referring to registration of a vehicle in VA, and pertains to VA residents. If I retain my residency in Utah I do not have to subject my car to that states testing requirements because VA is not the agency that will be giving me the registration stickers that go on my license plate (another difference between the 2 states). Utah is. I just have to prove that my vehicles were tested in VA and passed Utahs requirements. This is possible because of the laws in Utah for its residents relocated while on the job and in the military.

On a side note one of my friends from NJ was down here and he got a tint ticket. His tint was 20% all the way around. When he came back down here all they wanted was picture showing that he had the tint taken off and they pretty much said it was a warning, but yes all in all they inforced VA laws on someone that has a NJ DL and NJ registration....
If her car is registered in Utah she wouldn't be able to get it inspected in VA. It is called a state inspection for a reason. No virginia'a laws are not the same as utah's las, but since VA is a commonwealth they are able to inforce their laws on all cars that are in the state. In order for her to get he vehicle inspected she would have to go back to Utah.

domin8_gt, continue to believe what you want about your interpretation of the law, the fact is, you can get a ticket for illegal tint if the officer chooses to give it. Regardless of where your car is registered. Chances are, they won't mess with you if your car is registered out of state. As far as registering your car in Virginia, you can if you want. If you do register your car in Virginia (with a lein in your name only) and you are not a resident, you do not owe the yearly taxes for your car. Provided that your (Leave and Earnings statement, the one from DFAS.mil) shows you are not a resident. You don't have to register your car in Virginia but you will need to obtain insurance for Virginia.
Any car can be inspected by a Virginia Inspection Station. Many of you military men and women don't remember when the military required you to have your car inspected by Virginia to get base stickers whether or not your automobile was registered in Virginia.
