05ss/sc Need Help with what to do next...
Hey everyone! I'm pretty new to the car hobby in general and I just got my cobalt 3 months ago.
I've already put a few things on the car which I'm going to start off by listing below.
Hahn RaceCraft 3" full header(shorties....) back exhaust. Was already installed by previous owner
Centerforce DFX Clutch set with pressure plate. Was already installed by previous owner
Ingalls Torque Dampner
ZZP Stage3 kit: 2.8, 60#Injectors
Hurst short throw Shifter
Poly Trans mounts. Was already installed by previous owner
Cross drilled and slotted rotors
Now I have 2 questions, #1 being how much whp/tq do you think my car would put down on a dyno with and without a dyno tune on the existing build.
#2 is what I should do next to the car for optimal gains, I'm only 19 and still in school so I sadly don't have 4k for ZZP's turbo kit :/ and I know I'm not going to be able to put 340+whp without spending big money. I have around $1,000-$1,700 to spend on the car(labor not included) so I'd like to know what and what not to spend it on for best hp gains.
I'd like to say thank you all in advance for taking the time to help me out with this. Looking forward to hearing from you all

Option B tank, dual pass endplate, and a phenolic spacer.
All of which you can save on labor by doing yourself. I am some-what new to working on cars as well, and doing those 3 thinks only took me a few hours after doing a bunch of research.

Coolant temps off the DIC or IAT2 temps? Theres a big difference. If your IAT2 temps are too high then your computer is going to pull timing resulting in loss of power. The cooler the air, the denser it is. The denser the air, the more that can be crammed in. Cool dense air = moar power

Thank you all for the information, I really appreciate it!
I'm talking about what is says on the dash so I guess DIC... also I do have a injen CAI on the car aswell. So do you think getting the dual pass endplate and the Phenolic spacer would do good with the temps, or would you suggest moarr? Thank you all for the information, I really appreciate it!

CAI is not going to do much. Alot of ppl dont care for injen either. Theres really no such thing as too many cooling mods. Some ppl go all out and some ppl do the bare minimum. Its all up to you but dont cheap out and then wind up melting your internals. Imo is better to spend a little more for the piece of mind. You also might want to invest in an interceptor gauge to keep an eye on your temps.
Okay so after getting the Phenolic spacer and dual pass endplate would I have to re flash my ecu or would the can tune from zzp still be okay?
Also other than the Cooling mods what should I go with next? Don't think I didn't take the advice on the cooling mods, already have them ordered!
best bank for your buck is get a custom tune. canned tunes are ok but usually pretty conservative and not catered to your specific car.
I agree with getting all the mentioned cooling mods. the more efficient/cooler your intake temps are... the more power you can make consistently... especially on back to back runs.
if you have e85 in your area... you can grab 80# injectors and get retuned. You can probably pick up 20+ whp with corn.

What do you mean by "corn"? Also should I get a handheld tuner before thinking about getting meth/tune and which brand should I buy?
Also I've been told even know I have Hahn headers; because they're shorties I'm losing a lot of power compared to something like zzp's midlength/longtube header/downpipe combo, is that true?

Its a single header for starters. With a shorty you gain low end torque. With a long tube you gain high end torque. A mid length is looked at as the middle between the two.
Okay thanks for clearing that up. But I'm looking into tuning the car. Should I get a handheld tuner like a diablo tuner or something before taking it to get a dyno tune?
The best thing to do is to buy hptuners and have someone on here remote tune you. Bluelnfftw can tune lsjs. PM him and see what he thinks. A tuner on here is gonna be better than a dyno tune from a shop that doesnt know our platform all that well.
But I do have one more question lol, do I need to get some handheld thing also or just HP tuners?
No you dont need any handheld tuner devices. Blue can tell you exactly what you need to buy to get started. There are other lsj tuners on here also but none come to mind at the moment

I suggest you take a little time and poke around this site....
Take a look at the dyno thread as well. Lots of good info in there to help you pick a route to go for the numbers you're looking for.

Hey man I tried contacting him on here but no response. Do you know of any other tuners on here that can tune lsj's or you could direct me a link to the correct forum page of a list lol.
He hasnt posted in about a week but hes usually pretty active so im sure he will respond when he gets back. No others come to mind at the moment. Maybe someone will chime in. This is probably a good time for you to do some research to see what mods you want for your power goals.

As far as mods here's what I plan on doing with the money:
Spacer, dual pass endplate, LS4tb, port SC, HPT and have someone help me out with the tune, hopefully the guy you directed me to lol. I also plan on getting an option B tank I just don't have the funds atm.
