2006 SS/SC Cobalt finally got my own!
2006 SS/SC Cobalt finally got my own!
2006 SS/SC 132k miles. Got it for $1,800. Cylinder 4 has 37,756 miss fires. Car sounds like it is running on 3 cylinders. Valve train looks fine, cylinder leak test tomorrow when I get the tool. Car is almost stock aside of the K&N cold air, Magnaflow exhaust I think 3" but I won't know till I get it on a lift. dings and dents but the perfect candidate for a sleeper.
First of all 350whp is what I want to hit and the ZZP LSJ Turbo kit is the route I'm looking to go. 17" rims with 225/45 give or take. Stiffy and reverse trans mounts. Speaker upgrade what ever will fit in factory locations. Aftermarket single din media without the cd player (I think) Body Kit I'm tempted to get something as close to stock and remove the spoiler and get a new trunk lid (right reverse light has rust around it)
I've typed this out a few times now and forgotten things because the forum keeps scraping the post and telling me to log in lol.

I was going to look into resleeve and get forged pistons, rods, and upgrade valve train, cams later because it's so easy to get into
Also I have access to a few great machinist, plus the experience of my dad whos daily is a red 06 SS/SC and has a fully built TVS 06 blue SS/SC and is a GM Tech

Even with those issues, $1,800 is a steal. Got get yourself a short block from ZZP and hope that fixes the majority of your issues. Awesome find man!
Red you say? That car looks Blurple to me

Ok compression test 1,2,3 had ball park 160 Cylinder 4 had 40.. going to pull the head this weekend and see whats going on. Changed the plugs to the NGK 1 range colder (took them off my dads car that is waiting on the cam's getting the hex on correctly to remove the check engine light for the cam correlation)
Comp Cam blower cam, but the cam correlation hex wasn't set properly and he never figured it out, so the car hasn't been street legal in a few years
Ya I was going to mention that comp doesn't set the hex properly. ZZP and OTTP sell camshafts that are supposed to be drop in with it already done. The comp blower grind is that the 210/218 dur 423/436 lift

Pulled the cylinder head valves are good, cylinder sleeve is good, we're guessing it's a bent rod or the guy didn't drive the car enough if the ring is broken
#4 we put a plug in and sprayed enough brake cleaner to submerge the valves to see if they leaked reason it has a plug and looks cleanerGoing to end up pulling the block and getting it honed for some forged pistons, eagle rods, speedtech springs, #80 injectors per BlkWdoSS's recommendation of what he ran with the setup, WOT box also now that I am aware of its existence, probably the GM upgrade clutch, fodanza alum flywheel, rotated trans mounts, I'm thinking the GM upgrade axles too.. The car will be making at least 400whp any opinions?

Just a suggestion, altho I run a fidanza flywheel. Might be best to stick to a factory flywheel and not go lightened on a turbo car. I don't know why just things I have seen people suggest on here. Someone might step in and explain. Send that head to LSJion and get it ported while its off. Lol. Might aswell get rid of the balance shafts while shes out too. OTTP sells bushings for it.
Usually the third ring land breaks, and if it wasn't driven hard or for years the damage to the sleeve can be minor. I'd bet you pull the piston and the side of it is held together by the sleeve. The rod isn't bent unless he hydrolocked it. Also you'd notice it much lower in the bore than #1 piston.

It held together very well, I could throw another stock piston in and call it a daily driver but where is the fun in that my 3.8l slomaro can do that. Now I gotta see how long it'll take the machine shop to get me some custom JE pistons (old friend parts at his cost)
Using the OTTP bushings and cutting the balance shafts for idlers is cheaper and lighter then the zzp neutrals. Ported head is usually good for 10-15hp depending on other mods. It also helps out with throttle response. The exhaust side on an LSJ head is pretty restrictive stock.
We have a winner lol

I'll try to get the head P/P this season but speed service has offered to get the block check and piston order start this coming saturday. $350 for the JE pistons 8.9:1 comp. Then i gotta get rings and rods too but it's like $91 for a set off JE for those size pistons and rods i'll have to ask if he can get me some for his price. Then the balance shaft delete, super damper, springs, lnf valves. I did pm lsjion tho haven't heard back yet
