Checking in

so i'm new here. i've actually had my cobalt for over two years now, but have only recently been looking into modifying it.

it's a 2009 2LT sedan with the "sport appearance package," which means it has 17" wheels, a sunroof, more stylized bumpers, and so on. it also means it can be difficult to research information on it on forums since this combination evidently isn't very common.

Very nice, I miss my 08 sport coupe looking at yours. Well man you've come to the right place, you'll find everything you need to know about for your ride. I would recommend first getting a Short Ram or cold air intake. Short Ram is easier to install, the 2.4 L K&N typhoon is in my opinion the best intake for your car. You'll feel a difference and love the sound of that intake

Wondering what it sounds like here's a vid:

Your combination has nothing at all to do with the research available on it. Thousands of cars have the same engine as you, the same interior, the same bumpers, the same lights, the same everything. Your bumper is more commonly referred to as the "SS" style bumper.

chevygirl: i agree! i actually much prefer the look of sedans. actually, just sedans with SS bumpers. i would have preferred that darker metallicy red or whatever you want to call it, but white's not bad.

Kori: thanks, i love this site. i've been on it a long time before i made an account. it seems like no matter what i think about doing to my car, someone here has already done it and knows everything about it.

you say 2.4L intake, but wouldn't it be 2.2? even if you do the 2.4 manifold swap, the intake and throttle body would be the same. right?

redcobalt: i can't remember what it was that i thought was hard to research, but i think i've figured everything out now. one thing that threw me was the suspension facts thread. it said my car has fe1 suspension, which includes stamped steel lower control arms. but mine are aluminum. but that must just be because it has the fancy sport package

well i know for sure i want to upgrade to FE5 shocks/springs/struts.

i'd like to get some SS/TC wheels (they are the best looking, in my opinion), but i don't know that i'll ever be able to afford them. i'd at least like to put 225s on it when it's time for new tires.

i'm thinking about doing the 2.4 intake swap and a cold air or short ram intake.

i haven't found an exhaust system that sounds good so i think i'm just going to stick with stock.

tuning sounds like a PITA. i don't think there are any tuners nearby, and i'm not interested in paying that much for tunes and dyno time. and DIY tunes like HPT are stupid expensive and i don't think i'd know enough about it to do myself any good.

nothing radical. i still have to drive it during the week, and i'm saving up for an engagement ring so my budget is going to be pretty tight for a while.

The 2.2 and the 2.4 use the same style intake, so you would need either a 2.4 or 2.2 intake. As far as the manifolds/throttle body that is a different story, but the intake is the same on both

My tune was 250 and I didn't use a dyno. Then my new tune was only $150. It's not too bad since it makes a pretty big difference.

Gmpp, corsa and magnaflow are good sounding exhaust. I myself have magnaflow.

Do you plan on lowering it?

Nice sedan. A badmab header and a zzp downpipe are also good upgrades. Brand new, they should only cost about $400.

FE5 with YYZ springs version 2 are the way to go.

this is kinda random, but i saw somebody say that 05-07 2.4 manifolds are the same as 08+ 2.2 manifolds. i've only seen one person say that, so i'm not sure if it's a legit claim. does anyone know if that's true? if so, then i won't waste my time and money with a 2.4 manifold.

so you're saying this intake would work on mine? could i actually expect the double-digit horsepower gains?

K&N 2.4 intake

i think that's exactly what i'm going to do. except i think i'll stick with stock fe5 springs for now until i can afford something better.

Why is that thing so expensive? But ya it will work. I accidentally bought the 2.2 intake for my 2.4. And you can't go off of what the gains says.

well that answers that question. now the question is, is one better than the other? i would imagine they'd pretty much be the same thing.

I'm pretty sure they are the same thing besides the color.

The piping on the silver one looks a little bigger though.
