New to Ecotec Project Car

Hello, I would like to introduce myself here. I am currently in research phases of a first project car. While it will not be a Cobalt, it will be running an Ecotec. I hope that this place will be a wealth of information for me.

A little on my Project:

Car:
99-05 (NB) Mazda Mx-5 Miata
Engine swapped for an LE5 or possible LEA or LAF
I am leaning to the LE5 for cost and future project of adding FI via supercharger. I do not own anything yet, as I said I am researching. Since I am leaning toward the LE5, and the engine is aging now meaning low milage examples for low cost are hard to find, I will be wanting to rebuild the motor I get. I would love some insight on where to get the motor section of the factory service manual. Good places to find parts, especially cams that support VVT. I have used the search feature, so please do not be lazy and reply with "that's what the search feature is for".

I have cyberstalked this forum for a few weeks now, I just figured I would get more by joining the forum at this point.
Thank you,
Chuck.

I think the LEA block has the far superior supported upper cylinder walls so I would recommend spending the extra coin for that improvement. Find a decent used LEA block and either measure or have someone measure the cylinder walls to see how much they will need to be honed to perfect the geometry. Order custom slightly oversized pistons to fit the new bore size. Iirc a common oversize choice is .002" over. ZZP will be your best and potentially your only choice for VVT cams.

Do you have gmail? If you have google drive I can share whatever pdfs you need if you pm me your email address.

Thank you for the welcome. I hope this project is the one for me. I want something a little challenging but not trailblazing. I know enough about cars to get in trouble but not as much as a lot of people on this site. I want to take this as a learning experience, so I will be doing as much as possible on my own. However I think I am about a year from starting this. When I do start it I will do a build thread, here and over at the miata site.
