New guy here

hey guys. Bought a cobalt just recently and I’m having trouble trying to figure out what kind of motor I have exactly. Think the motor has been altered

It looks like someone turbocharged your 2007 supercharged SS. It may be the original 2.0.
I find it odd the seller didn't tell you what it was.

it’s a 2007 cobalt ss. That’s all I know. I’ve been looking every gen model for compatible motors and I think it may be off the redline?

that’s what I was thinking. Maybe it’s the original 2.0 supercharge motor with a turbo. But upon looking at the motors that come out with them it seems slightly different such as coil pack positions

The yellow Junk Yard paint pen markings are not a good sign that it's still OEM.

yeah that is why I was trying to figure out exactly how this car is set up. Just not too sure which year of motor this is. If someone could I’d REALLY REALLY appreciate it. Thanks everyone

Your only hope since the valve cover id tag is gone is there might be an id stamped into the side of the block over by the oil filter housing. Should be a flat machined surface below the housing.

To me it looks to the Saab 9-3 engine, looking at the connectors for the coil packs thats what they tend to use

Are you on the rgv ecotecs page on face book? If not look for it and join, members on there know about this car and may lead you in the right direction.

That ground strap looks sketchy as hell, and also isn't in that location on the LSJ
