No Cobalt from The Netherlands
No Cobalt from The Netherlands
Hi people,
since I'm reading this forum a lot lately a small introduction would be propper I guess.
I dont drive a Cobalt but a Vauxhall VX220 (a.k.a. Opel Speedster) with a L61/Z22SE engine hence the reason I pay this forum a visit from time to time.
Info on the little fun car can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VX220
And here is a picture of the car itself:

Plans: Turbocharge the little ******
Grtz,
Daniel

Thanx for the welcome guys!
@Nobody2U: A slight adjustment on your comment: The Solstice is a variation on the Opel GT we have here in Europe, but def not on the Speedster. The Speedster is basicly a Lotus Elise with a L61 engine in it and has a complete different platform and setup than the Opel GT/Solstice. The Speedster was not build by GM or Opel but by Lotus in the UK. They needed money to develop the new Elise Mk2 and Opel wanted a showoff model in their range.
Tuningwise I think a GT28R(S)@10psi or so (250whp-ish) would be great on this car and still be pretty safe I guess.

@XXenjoi: Yes this one has the basic L61/Z22SE 147bhp 155 lbs/ft engine running with F23 5-speed Getrag gearbox. Later on it was also available with the Z20LET 2.0 turbo engine (200bhp) but was also around +200 lbs heavier.
2.2 model does 0-60 in 5.9 sec, 2.0T does 4,9 sec factory specs.
Seen guys over here running <4 sec 0-60 times with decent tires and 250ish whp power on the 2.0T. 1/4 mile would be 12-12.5 area, maybe 11's with real drag tires?
@Ecaulk: No I'm not going for the air/water IC since we have to put the rad in the front and dril tubes to the back etc. Dont like cutting in the car and the CC system weight in about 50 lbs extra. All the F/I guys here do the air/water IC but thats because they:
*Supercharge M62 = Heat -> needs good cooling
*Tune their 2.0T to 18-22psi K04-turbo boost which produces a lot of heat.
If i can keep the boost at 10 psi on a "larger" turbo like the GT28R(s) I think I can get away with a decent size IC to keep the IAT down.
Will probably add turbo airintakes on the sides to duc more air in the engine compartment if needed.
It's getting winter over here now so not much to do but just surf the internet gathering information and find out what works and what not on this car. The basics are not a problem since this is gonna be my 3th car I turbo (Nissan NX2000 and 240SX S13)

Where in netherlands are you located? I working in Rotterdam for about 6 weeks back in 2010 and really enjoyed my time there.
Would love to see a 400bhp version of your car, would be sick!

I'm about an hour drive south of Rotterdam, near a place called Goes.
400hp would be sick indeed haha. I'm undiscided yet if I should do a next season cheaper 250 whp fun setup and have cash left for other fun things or to build an engine and do the go big or go home home stuf on a long run... Luxuary problems that is lol
