nitrous+gm stage 3
Is it wet or dry shot that the GM kit is set up with.
This reminds me of the saleen focus that they offered to sell at the dealership withthe setup for NOS but as soon as you put the bottle in and hooked it up BYE BYE waranty.
I also want oknow what the difference is with the 100 octane mode and what numbers can we see with this kit

yeah sorry guys, alot of posts so I will try to answer what I am seeing. I fI forget something, just keep asking I will try to answer it all based on what I know for sure.
In answer to witts response, It could ery well be from "GM", but I would say it is from the dealer that he is working with and does not come straight from GM corporate. I would simply find a dealer that is willing or make sure that the dealer understands...no where in the kit does it state that the stage 3 is not covered. A great example is to loko at the stage 3 kit w/toys for the SRT-4...If I am not mistaken...it says right out "NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY". The stage 3 from GM does not say this.
Sure man no problems at all.
I am running a dynotune "dry" kit. 50 HP shot. I used this since the pcm controls fuel insertion into the motor on the kit. And it specifically states "the pcm will control all timing and fuel once the kit switch is activated" it also specifically sites using the 42# injectors provided in the stage two kit.
I haven't ran the 100 octane mode yet as I was having issues with finding the gas. Now that I founf unleaded it is 103 octane and I have to check with my dealer/mechanic to make sure that this is OK since the kit specifically calls for "100" octane.
I am bringing it over to have it dynod as soon as I get paid again in two weeks...I just shelled out 700 for the kit, 300 for the nitrous and 800 for labor so I am kinda busted.
Sorry man, not trying to start ANYTHING with ANYONE and I apologize sincerely if I have said anything to **** anyone off so far.
I am just trying to help because to my knowledge I am the first person on here to have the stage 3 kit with nos set up.
As for dyno numbers...I promise...they are coming. no more than three weeks from todays date. Guaranteed!
I will get them without nos, with nos, and nos with high octane mode. I am not sure if it will pay to run just high octane mode on the dyno...I mean the numbers may be there but I only get three pulls for my money
Another side note. The reasoning given to me for being able to use the 42# injectors with the kit is that stage 2 requires 91 octane and the stage 3 requires 93 octane. Since you have to use 93 higher octane you can safely use the stage 2 injectors as it requires less fuel for the same effect lessening the duty cycle on the injectors. Again, not sure what there is to the statement, but if they are covering it and the kit say to use the stage 2 injectors...I'm game. As stated, I am sure GM can tune better and safer than most could hope to with HP Tuners.

Couple of questions for your setup if you don't mind:
- what nitrous kit are you running with GM S3? shot?
- have you used the 100 octane tune yet? if so, comments?
- any numbers with kit? w/nitrous? w/HOM? (dyno or track; i know you don't drag, but just asking in case)

If I remember right there is a focus out, I believe it is a rousche Focus or SVT or something but it has a nitrous hook up stock and it is warrantied.
Yeah I had forgotten about that. Its the Saleen Focus n2o:
http://www.saleen.com/n2o_s121.htm
Thats apples to oranges though. What Ford will warrant has no bearing on what GM will.
FNFAST, I would actually like the number to your dealership so I can see if they will provide me with any sort of paperwork that would convince my dealer to install stg 2 & 3.
Thing is, they are aware that stage 2 is warrantied (parts), but they claim that because it is an engine modification, they have to wipe out the powertrain warranty.
This morning I spoke to my friend who is a service advisor at the dealer where I bought my car, and he said its very unlikely that the service manager would budge on doing the install. Thats why I'm in need of something in writing. Heck, if you could get me a copy of the service order they made when they installed your Stg 3 + nitrous, that would probably be enough.

From what I understand it was the saleen N2O focus that came "nitrous ready" but if you hooked up a bottle and spray you voided the powertrain warranty. I used to work with a Focus fanatic, and he was geeked until he read the fine print
I would be careful running a sneaky pete or nos with the kit if it is not a 50 hp shot.
The kit specifically calls for a 50 shot and since it retards the timing and controls fuel for that shot I am not sure how it would react to anything more or less than a 50

So when we post you facts of the kit not being covered by warranty from gm you then come with a excuse thats its something else, or hes a lier, hypocritical, also the statement you made from axles breaking to sunroof makes no sense, please show me where i said all axles are crap? Exactly. When your puting power down and launching the car at a drag-strip prepare to break axles and buy new ones period.
My dealer warrantied my car and i have had issues with the intake gasket after they installed it,at frist they refused to cover it but it was because of the manager.after the manger was realeased a couple of days later the new manger covered it.so i belevie that it is determined by individual dealers and there mangers
Update:
As the technician at our dealership who installs all cobalt performance parts (due partly to the fact that I own one), it is partially my responsibilty to be able to explain to the customers that we have the warranty status using GM performance parts.
For this reason, I had my service manager put me directly on the found with our regional warranty representative. For those of you who dont work in a dealership environment, what Region says, goes...Plain and simple. If any issues regarding warranty arise the dealership makes the call to region rep and they are the person who decides what to do. They are also the person you see in court if you try and take it that far.
Here is the info as it pertains to GM Performance Parts Stage 3 kit:
1. 3 year/36000 mile Bumper to Bumper warranty remains intacted. However, any powertrain failures (this includes Engine, Clutch, Transmission, or Driveaxle failures) on a vehicle equipted with GMPP Stage 3 kit are NOT covered under warranty and are the responsibility of the vehicles owner. All other claims will be covered under Bumper to Bumper.
2. 5 year/60000 mile Powertrain Warranty is no longer intacted. After 3 year/36000 mile bumper to bumper lapses, ALL repairs to vehicle equipted with GMPP Stage 3 are the responsibility of the customer.
3. While the GMPP Stage 3 kit will accept a 50 horsepower shot of nitrous oxide, its was to be reminded to the customer, that in the state of WISCONSIN, it is illegal to drive on public streets with nitrous oxide installed on the vehicle in such a way that it can be activated while driving. However, all components may be installed in the vehicle as long as the nitrous line is disconnected from the bottle at all times while on public highways.
4. GMPP Stage 3 kit carries a 12month, 12000 mile warranty on part failure is the kit is installed by a GM certified technician. This 12 month 12 thousand mile warranty covers only the parts that are included in the GMPP Stage 3 kit.

The short version for stage 2:
If it is installed by a GM certified technician, the vehicle retains both its 3 year 36000 mile bumper to bumper, and its 5 year 60,000 mile powertrain warranties.
If the parts are installed after the 5 year 60,000 mile warranty has expired, they carry a 12 month 12,000 mile warranty through GMPP on the parts offered in the stage 2 kit only.
Does that answer your question? If not let me know and i can try and explain it as best I can. BTW make sure you have proof that your GM dealer installed your stage 2 kit. Copy of the completed repair order is good.

+ rep AMG
finally some solid looking info.
Ive been saying it for a good while too, but people keep installing their own stage 2 kits thinking they get full warranty with it, you dont.
but no one believes me.

Just so you guys know... the stage 3 kit is NOT covered under warranty. You have 12/12 on the kit itself, but it voids out your factory warranty and your extended service contract if you have one.
But... what it really comes down to is how serious you are about modding. You can drive around with a cold air intake and a body kit and call it good or you can upgrade the performance significantly and have a beast of a cobalt. The reality is that you are either an enthusiast or you just want to be cool... an engine and anything else on the cobalt can be replaced, so just don't drive like a jackass and you should be fine anyway, but if you do feel like jumping on it, redlining it frequently, bouncing around, and just plain driving like a moron, enjoy your burnt out engine, then expect something to go wrong and make sure you set aside a few grand for a new engine.
somehow I missed the post above about the warranty. But what I posted above was just what I got from my own dealership here in Alaska. Hell, it was hard enough to convince them to even do the install for an 'off road only' kit without a means of transporting it back to my house without driving it.

Well.
I won't sit here and argue with anyone. Especially people who claim they work for a dealership and say that it is not warrantied, or people who don't have the kit installed claiming it's not warrantied.
Bottom line is this. If you live anywhere in wisconsin or close to it and you want the gm stage 3 kit installed and still maintain the warranty on your car. Send me a PM and I will give you the name of my guy at the dealership and his contact information. You can set up the appointment and ask him yourself. Then maybe once you get it installed you can come back on and just smile at the guys who say it isn't covered. The reason I just don't put the number out on here is I don't think he would appreciate 600 phone calls from guys who are simply trying to figure out wether or not I am lying. I already told you I wasn't. Period. Like I said if you live anywhere close to greenbay WI and you want a warrantied stage 3. PM me. Thanks

Nobody is calling you a liar per se, but just because you "know a guy" who says he'll cover it, doesn't really mean anything. Sure he's all smiles now, but I wanna hear back the first time you take a car in that was running spray, with a melted piston, blown head, axle, clutch etc.
I bet "your guy" dissapears while the manager explains why you'll be picking up the bill yourself

The manager actually came out the day I showed up with the nitrous and was asking to check it out and get a ride in the car.
I do know that there are certain dealerships that are considered "performance specialty shops". Mine is one of only two located in wisconsin. I tried taking my stage 2 pulley off myself and snaped 3 sockets doing so. Not only did they pay me for teh sockets I broke, but they didn't charge me for the install of the new pulley since I "should have been able to get the pulley off myself."
When I asked about the "hole in piston" situation, he said yes it would be covered since gm has researched the stage kit and has everything programed to not burn a hole in the piston or do motor damage. If it was so easy to break you car with the kit, gm wouldn't be able to put the kit on the market since it has to meet certain standards. He said GM has to install the nitrous too though in order to be covered otherwise it could be blamed on a "shoty" install by the "other guy". SO with GM installing it, he said there is no excuse if something goes wrong, GM say's its safe and they did the install to GM's standards.
Again, not saying anyone is calling me a liar. But you guys sound more nervous than me...and you don't even have it on your car. Funny how the guy who does have it on his car...ME...is 100% confident.
So my offer stands on helping anyone out who would like the install, but moving forward I am answering questions pertaining to the kit itself and not about warranty issues. I already stated my claim on that, take it how you will.
Sounds good. I'd prefer seeing this thread move forward too now that all the warranty issues have been pretty much beaten into the ground.
Now just a few questions:
Last but not least, any pics of the setup?
Now just a few questions:
- What brand of nitrous are you using?
- Is it a particular kit someone could just grab online or is it something that was pieced together?
- Where is your bottle located?
- What were your dyno #'s w/ the 50 shot?
Last but not least, any pics of the setup?
Good questions..let me see
Now just a few questions:
What brand of nitrous are you using?
I am using dynotune dry 50 shot
Is it a particular kit someone could just grab online or is it something that was pieced together?
No it is not pieced. It came as a kit complete. Everything but the relieve valve for track use. It was 298 dollars with tax
Where is your bottle located?
I have the bottle in the trunk right behind the driverside passanger seat, nozzle facing forward so I can reach back to it. Lines are ran through the inside of the car (which you literally wouldn't have a clue they were there) and my toggle switch is located right next to the scanner plug in on the left side.
What were your dyno #'s w/ the 50 shot?
I have not dyno'd the car yet as I am moving and have had a hell of a time with all the crap I have. I will be getting it dyno'd within the next couple weeks for sure. no promise on when, but it will get dyno'd by months end.
Last but not least, any pics of the setup?
Pics are easy I should be able to snap a couple of those for you guys, just don't rag on me because my car is VERY dirty right now as like I said, I am moving and it has been raining ='s no time to clean it
