Minnesota chat 2010 ( . )( . )
Anybody on right now? I need a little help...just snapped a lug (first time I've done that on this car surprisingly....although I stripped 2 and had a shop take care of it).
So anybody that can tell me what needs to be removed? I take the wheel off obviously, done.
Does the rotor assembly have to come off? I'm running out of light out there...will have to bring out the spot lights...lol...neighbors will enjoy that.
I'm assuming the rotor comes off and then does the hub have to be removed? If so, what comes off? The center nut? What else?
Thanks for any help. I need this done tonight if possible. Otherwise my wife and I will swap cars tomorrow and she'll drive her short 5-7 mile drive to work with mine and I'll take hers to my day job and for delivering pizza until I can do it Wed. or Thurs. because I want to do it myself this time and avoid a shop. Otherwise if I have to go to a shop, I think I'll take it to PJW this time on Old Hwy 8.

Thanks for the heads up...Nice pics BTW!
Yeah I've always liked the looks of those STi wagons...
Take the rotor off and you see these studs...remove the broken one and insert the new one, its pretty simple. Getting a stud may be the hard part on a Sunday (Id use GM studs only)
Some times the studs will resist backing out, you may need to use a hammer or something.
When you torque your lug nuts be sure to use a torque wrench and have it set to 100ft/lbs
example pic, not a Cobalt though... \/

That bearing is pressed in so DONT take that nut off. you need to hammer the old one out and the new one in. It takes alot of patients and i even had to grind a little away to get mine out in the front. Good luck!
Thanks for the info guys...I was under the impression I needed to remove the hub because the replacements I have (I have a few extra studs and lug nuts just in case things like this happen) are not the D style replacements, they are just like OEM.
I wound up going to O'Reilly by my house after they were closed (they were still around and closing up so they let me pick up the 29mm for the hub)...got it all home to realize I didn't need it.
I wound up actually just filing a tiny amount off the back of the stud and pounding it in...luckily it slid in after that (the D style replacements are like that so you don't have to remove the hub).
It was a pain in the ass in the dark, but I finished and test drove it and it seems to be fine...I'll find out on my way to work and back tomorrow along with delivering pizza.
The only bad thing is my 30-minute wheel swap wound up turning into a fun 3-hour stud replacement.
Another thing I have decided is that I'm going to replace my LCA's down the road with FE5 and OTTP's Spherical Control Arm Bushings when I do an FE5 front sway. While I do that, I figure I may as well replace the end links with something from Moog or Powergrid. Any opinions on any of this?
Also, anybody that has the Hardcore bar willing to swap for a short period with me this summer so I can see the difference? Perhaps I would like to upgrade or buy that one as well for summer or something. I'd be willing to give you mine for a day or two that I would want to use it plus cash as a deposit (say $100) and for your trouble let you keep say $20 or $40 of it when we swap back.
One last thing, I've never snapped one tightening them down...it's always been when trying to break them loose...and I always break them loose by hand with my Gorilla wrench.

No, I would just want to borrow one (trade) for maybe 2 days at most to try it out...then I would decide if I want to buy one and either use the Hardcore for summer and Street for winter or just say the hell with it and keep the Hardcore on all the time.
Why, I won't be able to go...if I did go, I wish he were there too. I'd have a nice talk with him...I'm not saying I would fight with him, I'd just have a pissing match with him.
Anyway, I need to get to bed, have to work both jobs tomorrow...have to be up at 5:30 for Culligan, then I work 4:45 to 10 at Domino's. At least I don't work until Friday again at Domino's.
