NE Road Course day

I know over the winter the possibility of a "CobaltSS.net" track day at a road course surfaced and we'd discussed different venues for the event. One possibility was BeaveRun in Western PA - AKA my "home" track! At any rate, they have released their racing schedule and there are a couple possibilities:
  • Saturday May 12, 2007 - Flat-out day with instruction (all days are going to have to be w/instruction as I doubt there are going to be many people signed off as experienced road racers)
  • Friday June 8th, 2007 - Another flat-out day, although weekdays are out for the majority of people
  • Friday July 20th, 2007 - Another flat-out day and again on a Friday

For now, that is all that's on the schedule. More will probably be added, there's usually 8-10 events total, but that's all that are set in stone right now.

Also, NASA Northeast is going to be running at BR on May 19th. There is a Cobalt SS/SC that runs these events if anyone wants to take a trip out and see it. I believe it's comparably prepared to the GAC Cobalts.

Cobalt California team is a NASA team aren't they??

They were there last year when I saw them.

I don't think I'll be doing any track days this year, but you never know.

I think they run both, not sure. But they'll probably be back up for the NASA event.

If you ever want to come spectate Brian, you're more than welcome. There's going to be some big names floating around up there this weekend. I'm running Saturday. I just wish I had a camera mount...

Yeah, it'll be hard, cause the Glen or Lime Rock is too far of a drive for me, I'd more than likely have to take either a Friday or a Monday off work and I can't do that.

the only thing is.. i'm not sure how much wear and tear will go on the car.. like tires and brakes and such with road course racing.. i don't wanna make a long drive and have something wear out on me.. but i suppose i could bring some spare parts lol

Ah, I've never had a problem with mine. I did 6 auto-x events and 2 open track days on mine before I needed brakes at 40k miles, clutch is still perfect, suspension should be good (I have the "thunk" but nothing is loose). I've never had any wear and tear issues.

It really is going to depend on the shape of your car to begin with as well.

I know of some guys that run there and they say "it's hell on tires and brakes". So... there are some guys that bring pads just for the track and swap them there, or replace them before or after an event.

If you're driving far, I would say to bring basic tools for something that can happen and be prepared.

Very good points, Brian.

If you have cross drilled or slotted brakes, pads are a must. You'll burn them up almost guaranteed.

General stuff like jacks and things like that are a good idea to bring, but if you REALLY have a problem, almsot everyone there will jump at the chance to help. You might see rivalries at drag strips, but on the road course, everyone's your friend. Hell, the last time I was having fitment issues with my wheels and was having to make frequent stops to torque down the wheels, my "pit crew" was a guy in a white SRT-4 and a Mustang GT driver. Go figure!
