Racing crash again highlights deadly Boulevard
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, police said, though witnesses said two cars involved in the crash were racing north on the boulevard. The striking vehicle was a 1990s model Oldsmobile or Pontiac, gold or silver, racing with a blue Dodge Neon with white stripes.
FELTONVILLE. For residents like Lilly Johnson and Kisha Jones forced to cross one of America's most dangerous roads for pedestrians, a daily ritual is to pray before heading across Roosevelt Boulevard.
"Imagine coming home late at night and trying to get across this?" Johnson said after making it across at Rising Sun Avenue. "What can you do? You just have to pray."
Another fatal crash between car and crosser happened at the intersection of the Boulevard and Rising Sun Avenue just after midnight yesterday, leaving Brenda Rodriguez of nearby West Louden Street dead, police said.
Rodriguez, 36, of the 200 block, died almost instantly after she was struck crossing the northbound lanes of the boulevard by a car witnesses saw drag racing through the intersection with another car, police said. Both cars sped off moments later.
Pedestrians have a lot to worry about at the massive intersection, some said yesterday, including crosswalk signals that give crossers only a few seconds to travel across three lanes of traffic. One crosswalk yesterday changed from a "walk" signal to a "don't walk" signal that counted down from three seconds.
PennDOT and the city Streets Department installed the countdown cameras last year at 46 intersections along the boulevard, including Rising Sun Avenue. PennDOT said engineers decide on the time allotted to pedestrians for crossing.
"I would guess they're giving you enough time to cross," Capt. Michael Murphy of the Accident Investigation Unit said, adding that "99 percent" of crashes are caused by human error. "In general, as many time as its the drivers fault its the pedestrians'. They dont realize how fast the cars are coming."

yeah, but expect it to be patrolled even more now. In recent months it has gotten out of hand, this is from the METRO; a regional newspaper on SEPTA stations that I read:

And yea there have been some intense races there. I've raced a few people. The best was me vs a Stage 2 srt4 from a dig to about 150 and I almost crapped my pants. Beat him by a car. So crazy and so dumb.
I don't race too much on the blvd anymore, just quick little digs against people (when my clutch holds) every now and then, that's about it.
If you do go though it's a good time. Just watch your back for cops and idiot drivers when everyone is hauling ass up to the wawa by street rd.
Yea I've gone to a few times. I want to start going more since it's getting really nice out. It's usually sunday nights at 9 by the Burlington Coat Factory on the blvd. It's a sick meet. Everything from really shitty hondas, to our cars, to GTOs, Z06's, and the occassional Ferrari. Tons of fun

I'm thinking of picking up a 1986 Toyota Camry as a DD for me.
here's a pic of her:

PS - Anyone down for this? It's a Cecil County Dragway meet .... we can then show who's truly the better driver and faster car!!
