I'm not getting involved in the other fight... but I will answer this question: GM's Zeta Platform... which has nothing to do with the current GTO other than the fact that Holden (who also built the GTO aka Monaro) helped design it. Really, it's not based off of the GTO or Monaro. Sorry.

Hly Crap.... relax Kids....

For the record.... Shaun I never said to anyone that you didn't know how to drive. All I said that you were trying to figure out how to launch the car.

I don't mind you guys jabbing around with each other, but don't twist crap I say around to belittle another person.

Joking or not... I don't find that funny, as when you use things I say to pick on someone it puts ME in a bad light.

You can say "awwww we're just messing around .." and blah blah blah, but it's getting old real quick. If you want to bicker like that... take it to PM's and keep it private.

I guess I should've explained better. The zeta platform, i.e. the new Holden Commodore VE chassis, definitely does have something to do with the current GTO. I know it's not based off of the GTO or Monaro...it's essentially the next generation platform, far improved from the older VT, VX, VY, and VZ generations of Holdens, of which the GTO was built off of the VT Series.

The point that I was trying to make is that the new Camaro was designed and engineered in Australia and is using a slightly shorter wheelbase version of the VE chassis, and that there will be several new vehicles based on the VE chassis - Commodore, Ute, Camaro, G8, GTO, Impala, Nomad, El Camino, a Buick, and a Cadillac have apparently been confirmed, so they're not gonna be dirty step cousins anymore :P

Go back a few pages in this thread and I think I already did mention that bumblebee is a gto in disguise...or maybe that was on another forum. This thread grows pretty quick so it's hard to keep track.

Thanks for calling me a loser, really courteous of you. I'm gonna give up on this thread for a while.

Dan... ( GTO Dan ) just do what I do and tune out the fodder. Some of this is good.

Shaun, to stereotype everyone that has a GTO as such is a bit immature.

Just becuase you CAN post a derrogatory comment about someone's car ... ANYONE'S CAR, doesn't mean you should. That goes to you ALL that have been trash talking various cars.

Perfect example of how what you say ( kidding or otherwise ) can turn someone off to contributing here... GTO Dan hasn't said anything to **** anyone off and now becuase of the banter back and forth.... nevermind.. you get my point ( maybe ).

I'm about at my end of posting here

wow, I have no idea why all of the hatred towards us (gto people)... especially coming from the people who only show their faces on a sporadic basis.

Last time I checked, we're the ones who show up to help wrench on cars, go out to eat wings, drink beers, and really try to take part and be one with the group.

So we bust *****, who doesnt, its all in good fun. But wow, some of the **** being said above is just outright hatred for no reason. Real 3rd grader ****, and don't make me drop to 2nd grade just to combat it. Whatever happend to coming on a website and discussing cars, picking races, and having fun? Not this emo bickering ****.

I'm going to stay off this board, to much stupid **** going on, I'll see you guys in person and what not.

Don't get me wrong... I'm not e-fighting. I'm having a discussion on this topic completely aside from the argument going on with Shaun.

You basically restated most of my point... the zeta platform is what the new Commodore is being built on, along with all of the other cars you listed. While it was designed with the help of Holden engineers, it really has nothing to do with the "current" GTO or Monaro. To say that the GTO/Monaro was the basis for that platform would be like saying the Cobalt and the delta platform were based on the Cavalier and the J-Body platform. They are simply a replacement of older platforms. Filling a niche isn't the same as being "based off of".

Aside from the platform architecture itself, the new Camaro will use motors that are designed completely outside of the zeta platform project. While you can claim that the LS3 and whatever other LS? motors come under the hood of the new Camaro fall in line after the LS1 and LS2 that you find in the GTO, the GTO didn't define the development of that motor (thank the Corvette line for your motor). So if anything, I'd attribute the powertrain of the new Camaro to the Corvette line.

I don't know... maybe I interpret "based off of" differently than you guys. "Based off of" to me would mean something like, "The current GTO is based off of the Holden Monaro." A completely new architecture that was developed as a replacement and a global architecture doesn't really seem to be "based off of" anything other than brand new development.

the zeta is actually a universal chassis developed by GM/Holden/Opel

the new Camaro took its engineering cues from the Commodore chassis Monaro. Whereas your point is very valid, the GTO was the "testbed" for new RWD products, and will be based on the Zeta chassis along with the new Camaro when it returns in 2010.

So to say the Camaro is based off the current GTO? No, but it tooks its engineering cues from it (previous gen commodore platform). As they will be sister cars in the next few years ('09 Camaro, and '10 GTO).

here's a good idea of what a lot of people feel it may/should look like, although ignore the comments about the sigma... that is dead in the water

Yeah, my wording was poor. I should have said that the new camaro will be based off of the commodore chassis since it's the first vehicle built on zeta Since commodore and monaro/gto have been so closely related in the past, I was inferring something that I shouldn't have.

To be fair, I never said anything about powertrain, and I definitely know that the goat's motor comes from the vette, as I always have to explain to people that 6.0 does not mean 6 cylinder, and that it's actually the corvette v8, which usually results in people saying there's no way that's the corvette engine and then they question me if it's front wheel drive. I love car shows haha.

I'm not trying to make the gto look like some all mighty vehicle or anything, because I realize there are better cars out there. But that won't stop me from trying to defend what I think is a fantastic car when someone compares it to a 4th gen F Body in an incorrect manner

Back to Cobalt talk!
