I get these cheese fries with bacon from palermo, it comes in this tin and is about a lb if not more of just 3/4 fries, with the other 1/4 bacon and cheese

I'm too picky with fries. I like McDonalds, Burger King, or Sheetz garlic fries.

Dan...

The way the firmware works is all redirection.... the firmware has been instructed to read the security sector from, first the original location, then our modified location.. on a burned disc, it would not find the SS in the normal location, but it finds and accecpts it fine from the modified location.. All the first run burned games only had the Security sector.

Then C4E (firm author) started doing live logs, and found that live also is reading the DMI and PFI (disc media information) and (physical format information) from the original disc, so he came up with a way to dump those from the original disc, and redirect those to a spot of his choosing on a backup. (and there is PLENTY of dummy data on backup discs to inject this stuff)

The problem microsoft has, is they cannot reflash the DVD drive firmware through the xbox, and they are limited to the code built into the firmware as to what information they can poll from it, they can send a READ DMI, or READ PFI command to it, and then the DVD drive feeds it back, unfortuantly for them, they cannot add functions to the firmware at this point. Out of the 2 drives that were out untill recent (now 3 with the addition of BenQ) the hitachi was seen as the biggest hole open, since the hitachi was able to have code uploaded to it and ran. The samsung had no similar function. Then firmguard came into play.

C4E added Firmguard to later firmware revisions, on the samsung it write protects the flash so that it can only be modified and read by inserting a special 0800 enable mode disc. And on a hitachi, they patched the response system to report back retail values whenever the firmware is sent the read commands. So far the 360 has not even started sending read commands to the drive, and there are doubts that it even can, and even if it does, it will get back proper values.

Now onto the subject of the recent bans.

A few months ago, with the spring update, as noted previously, they were logging the DMI and PFI responses from the drives, but not doing anything about it.... well with the spring update, they started banning based on the future responses of these checks.... it was also found that they were looking at the amount of time the SS response took, as with the hacked firmware it was instant, so C4E released iXtreme firmware a few days after, with a timed response, and it now will not boot discs that do not have valid DMI and PFI information (stealth backup).

C4E also does weekly live logs to watch for any new commands, he just checked yesterday to follow up the halo 3 launch, and nothing new is in the stream.

It is 100% safe, and microsoft have been defeated this round, they have no other cards to play, other then to release new hardware that makes it harder to flash.

and onto the 3 red lights of death... i have spent countless hours on this problem, and have followed the research being done on the xboxhacker forums by people much smarter then any of us, and it has been traced down to the X-Clamps causing the motherboard to flex, and when it gets hot then cold over and over, the solder joints eventually crack, especially in the area of the GPU.

the proper fix for the 3 lights, is to clean and apply a nice layer of arctic silver 5 thermal paste to the CPU and GPU, throw the xclamps away, and replace them with nylon washers and machine screws, then unplug the fans, turn the box on, let it overheat (top 2 red leds only), and then let it on for about 2 minutes after it starts flashing the overheat warning. this allows the area's in question to get hot enough to reflow the solder and remake the proper joints, after it cools down, put everything back together and enjoy a perfectly working xbox......

sorry that was long, but i DO know what i am talking about on this subject

I'm well aware of how it works. You just described it in more detail than I cared to go into for the sake of not boring everyone on here... which I'm sure you just accomplished with that book. I'm not new to this. I've been a member of Xbox-Scene since they were first modding the original Xbox. I had/have a few modded original Xboxes.

You forget that I did this **** in school. It's not a hobby... it was my life for four and a half years. MS isn't out of options just yet. I will bet money that there will be more bans. Besides... even if they log the communication daily... all it takes is one time for you to get a permaban on your 360. Aside from that... with the design issues and hardware failure rate for the 360, why you'd want to void your warranty to save $60 here and there is beyond me.

Furthermore, anyone that wants to call themselves a true gamer certainly isn't a modder in the way that you and others mod. True gamers want to support the industry... not rip it off. Personally, I like Halo 3, GoW, CoD, RSV, Forza 2, etc. I'd like to see developers make their money so they continue to develop top notch games. I don't mind paying them $60 for their effort. When I modded my original Xbox, I did so to use it as a media center with XBMC and play emulated games... tasks which are both fully supported on the 360 out of the box.

Additionally, I'm aware of the issue with the solder joints breaking (although that's not the ONLY cause for the red ring of death). Still... overheating the 360 to melt the solder is not a good idea. There are parts in there that are much more sensitive to the heat. If you want to fry your GPU just on the chance that you might reconnect the solder joints, go ahead. I guess when you don't have a warranty, you have to grasp at straws when your 360 breaks.

actually idont have to grasp at ****, id rather just correct the microsoft design flaws and move on... and actually.. i DO support the industry, when they deserve it... i bought forza 2, i bought gears of war, i bought halo 3, and i will buy project gotham racing 4 on tuesday.

and if you would like to talk about stuff at xbox-scene, i would be more then happy to show you who i am there, and what i have accomplished. we can also trace back my accomplishments to the early days of PSX modding..

Every product has design flaws that become evident when the product is released and undergoes its largest test... real world use. Look at how many iPod generations there were... Zune versions... Razr versions... even the newer iPhone.

If you actually buy the games, then Kudos to you. I was under the impression (from what you've told me in the past) that you just burned and played the burned copies.

And what is your sn on XS? I'm interested in seeing what you did there.
