Here's, perhaps, story of the year, based on my run-in with a kid who wins ******* of the year.

So, a little over an hour ago, I'm heading up from the South Side, back to my house. Instead of going up McCardle, I decide to detour through the Liberty Tubes, for obvious reasons.

I bear left, enter the Tubes, and prepare to step on the gas. When lo and behold I see, in my headlights, a person about an 1/8 mi. into the Tubes. A tall person, in a black polo shirt and jeans. A stumbling person, who stops and stares at the oncoming lights, like that proverbial deer.

I'm confused. The person next to me, in a van, is confused. The person walking, through the Liberty Tubes--walking, through, the, Liberty, Tubes--is confused. He leans against the wall, like that will help.

So the person next to me keeps on going. I near, slow, and see this person is a young someone, wearing a Comcast polo. A young, confused, drunk someone. Part of me says "set up"...and part of me realizes no car jacker is dumb enough to try something in the TUBES. I stop, look at him. He looks at me, very confused.

"Dude," I say. "Dude. What the ****?"

"Hi," he says, smiling.

"Do you know where you are?" I scream.

He giggles. "No."

Against all reason, I say: "Get in the car."

He gets in.

I proceed to move forward, stunned. He's looking at the car.

"Nice car," he says, which was a good thing to say, as I was ready to pummel this target of natural selection. He smells quite drunk.

By the end of the Tubes, I've gathered his name, which is also Jon. His age, 20. What university he plays soccer for, CMU.

At this point I'm parked at the BP right up on West Liberty, waiting for him to get out, still thinking he's trying to pull something on me. I ask him if he knows where he is. He thinks somewhere on the Turnpike.

"Jesus," I say. "Dude, you're like 2 miles outside of downtown."

"You wanna go to a party?" he asks.

No, I didn't, at the moment. I wanted to be home.

He asks me that a few more times.

He insisted that I go to a party, tonight. Now. Then he asked me if I knew of any. Then he said he lives in the soccer house, and there's always parties. He asks me my name, again. Tells me his, five more times. Repeat.

Well, by now I think he's telling the truth, drunk and stupid as hell. Plus he's removed an iPhone, and was messing with it. I'm not leaving him stranded on West Liberty...dumb ass would end up back in the Tubes, or smeared in the Tubes, picked up by a cop either way.

I get him to call someone up at CMU, and get them on the line. He tries to explain, can't, so I end up explaining.

They ask me if I can bring him to the corner of Forbes and Morewood. I knew the area well, nothing shady. Right at the frats and whatnot at CMU.

So I agree, and on the way back get his story. His girlfriend of 4 years dumped him. Somehow or another, he got really drunk, and ended up in the Tubes. Oh, he also proceeds to remove a handful of shelled peanuts, some of which are now on my Recaros.

By this point I was too amused to be pissed.

Well I got him to CMU, dropped him off, and have located him on Facebook, pretty easily. He's who he says he is, sophomore @ CMU, soccer player. I sent him a reminder of what went on. It boils down to: he could've ended up in one of those passageways, and wandered in front of a car doing 100+, as they'll do in the Tubes. And, I've never quite seen something like that.

So, about that old Chinese proverb...once you save someone's life, you're responsible for them, right? Screw that. I'm taking him up on that party offer

yo, what is the trick to tighten these bitchin things down? i tried turning with a big ass bar and 21mm socket but the SOBs would barely budge and that's with the car down and my g/f sittin on it lol. i'm not sure if i should use the air compressor and torque the **** out of them or what.

Really, the only reason I stopped was I've seen my speedo going through there, sometimes...and I instantly imagined him in one of those passageways, then stepping back out, meeting some vehicle at 100+.

Actually, after I picked him up and we were leaving the Tubes, a Caddy STS blew by at well over 100.

I don't even KNOW what a cop would've done if they found him in there...

 

Anyone happen to have a spare unlocked or Cingular phone that I could slide a SIM card through as a temp phone?

Car was broken into and the phone was 1 of the things taken. Would rather money go towards a new window rather a new phone.

It needs to be a GSM phone Sim Cards FTW. I doubt anyone will have an extra, just thought I would toss it out there. My mom might have an old phone I could steal.

I think my dad has a motorola phone that had a sim card.... not sure though. He got a new one a while ago and the old one is sitting here.

i got one that is unlocked. it worked with my tmobile and my friends att/cingular

and i have a few tmobile phones that if you go to the operator menu u can change it to cingular/att but idk if itll work. ill get my friend to come over n try it. if it works i may sell it to ya

 

Oooo all these phones. I need to chcek to see if my old Razr is still at my moms first.

you could prob find a phone on ebay that is in working condition for like $5-10 after shipping that uses a sim card. i saw one of the real old nokias for like buy it now $5 plus $5 for shipping and i think it was brand new but that was 3-4 months ago so idk what youll find now

 

I'd be more concerned with killing the ****** who broke in the car. But that's just me. Good for nothing crack head pieces of **** need dope so they steal someone else's property. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.
