Ditto. I really wouldn't mind moving back to Texas. I really liked it there, minus the Mexicans.

DO NOT go to Knoxville. It's a horrible place to live. My dad was there for 3 1/2 years and that was 3 1/2 years too long. If you go to TN at least go Memphis or Nashville.

I think that it depends a lot on where you go. There are a lot of VERY VERY bad areas. I was never a fan of the traffic there.

All I'm saying is that I doubt you're gonna find Pittsburgh on any Roughest Cities In America lists like you would LA or someplace like that.. lol. Detroit, Atlanta, etc. Every city has their good and bad though..

haha..Pittsburgh is way at the bottom almost..

I'd kinda like to know what they're counting as the "surrounding areas" as that will have a big impact on stats. The other thing I find disturbing is that Pittsburgh is higher in the "violent crimes" area - murder/rape/assault/robbery, some of those by quite a significant amount.

In fact, if you take out the property crimes and look only at the FBI's crime stats, Pittsburgh has more violent crime than Los Angeles or New York.

http://www.morganquitno.com/cit04a.pdf

Now, if you could take out Wilkinsburg, Homestead, Homewood, L-L, the Hill, and select areas of the North Side, our crime rate would damn near disappear. (Kind of like they did by separating LA and Compton )

It's really weird, because the city is split in half. I guarantee you if you came over to my side of town and spent some time here, you'd see what I mean. It's absolutely HORRIBLE on the east side and up into the north side.

That and I get more of an inside look at it as well, the study I work for currently focuses exclusively on young males and crime in Pittsburgh. It's pretty depressing to see what's going on around here and how these groups operate.

What really sucks is my neighborhood was pretty decent when I moved here in 04. Now it's just infested with hood trash and turf wars between the Wilkinsburg trash and the Braddock trash. 2 years ago there was a murder 3 blocks from my house, there are tons of assaults and drug-related stuff and cars are broken into CONSTANTLY. Hell in the past 1-2 years people have tried breaking into my house twice - both times while I was home. When I first moved in I'd walk wherever I needed to go, didn't matter if it was light or dark out or what time it was. Now unless I'm going straight to my car to go somewhere, I don't leave the house at all at night.

Again, you'll encounter that anywhere. I agree. I wouldn't just go to a shady neighborhood to "hang out". lol. But windows up, doors locked never hurt anyone. lol. Regardless, I have been all around Pittsburgh. My dad works on the river as a barge surveyor. He goes to all the ports, and some are in REALLY frightening areas. lol. When he took me and had to leave the car for a minute he'd always be like "Don't even THINK about getting out of this car." I never understood why at the time.. But then again.. I was 5. haha I forget the area it was called, but it's sorta over by Kennywood. Well, there's one before Kennywood and after Kennywood that's over in that area.. But there's lots everywhere..

But along the lines of you saying that you see more because you work in that field.. That's like since I'm a valet, I see the insides of a ton of Pittsburghers cars. And MAN they're gross. haha. I'd see more than you in cars, you'd see more than me in crime. Same idea.

Yep, I know. It's just disappointing the high rate of violent crime here. Property crime is very very low here, which is why in overall crime studies we're ranked as a pretty safe city. Pittsburgh has a higher rate of VIOLENT crime than most major cities, except Detroit, LMAO....I don't think anyone will ever top Detroit. It's more than just how many crimes happen - it's how many happen per capita. A good example - Youngstown, OH - USED to (don't know if it still does) have the highest per capita murder rate in the entire country....higher than NYC, LA, even Detroit, LOL. Almost all of that comes out of Pittsburgh between a gang war and 3 or 4 major drug operations.

I dunno. Overall the city is OK, but I'm ready to get the hell out of the east side though. Living over here has turned me into a HUGE racist (redlineblueline and I were having this discussion earlier). I'm sick of getting my **** stolen, sick of the random gang violence cropping up in otherwise decent neighborhoods, it's just sickening the way people think and act over here. I used to live in a much much MUCH larger city (Houston, TX) then moved back to Pittsburgh and the crime problems there don't hold a candle to the crime problems here.

This is true. Funny thing is I'm so used to looking at criminal records and **** along with profiles, I know where all the "bad" neighborhoods are just by looking at the zip codes.

Why? If the Armstrong Tunnel incident taught us anything, it's that Housing Police solve problems on the spot...

Does the west side even HAVE projects? I can't think of any, except maybe Carnegie/Crafton area. Over here they're everywhere, but that also would explain why crime's more focused over here. Hell just delete Hawkins Villiage, Crawford Villiage, and a few of the other "choice" housing developments and people could start leaving their doors unlocked at night.

Ditto on that. We're looking at heading for Florida, possibly as soon as next spring if all works out.

I know it gets damn hot there, and they have hurricanes from time to time. But all in all, it's better in a LOT of ways... economy, wages, etc. The biggest plus for me is the weather, though... NO MORE FREAKING SNOW!!!

See, eventhough I've been all over, I live in Imperial. It's 5 minutes from the International Airport and 10 minutes away from the city. It's a nice little town. I could leave my car outside all day with my windows down and I wouldn't even have a piece of gum stolen. haha
