I hear summer only tires work well in the snow... but really you invested thousands of dollars in your car, now protect it with a few hundred dollars worth of good snow tires and get that traction your looking for. Also remember snows dont only help you accelerate better, they also help you STOP sooner.

Well I am running summer only Contis and Ive been able to get around just fine, doesnt mean you should SNOW tires are the way to go, they make a massive difference in steering and braking as well as acceleration, a difference that no amount of skill can make up for. Some places you can actually get FINED for not having snow tires on the car during winter.

Think about it this way.. your 4 tires are the only contact patches your vehicle makes with the road, Make sure you have the BEST damn contact patch possible for the conditions...

How you interpret this is up to you.

EDIT: I'm rocking all seasons that came on my Fusion. 225-45-18. The car does perfectly fine in 6" of snow. My guess is the OP doesn't know how to drive in snow.
LOL shush you! that was only for a day. unexpected weather conditions messed me up haha.

i've got yokohama avid t4 all seasons and i have never had a problem. the stock contis were a joke, but i still survived last winter just fine. i have never been stuck, not even in the 2 feet we got on christmas eve driving on roads that hadn't even been plowed yet. snows are great but really not a necessity.

I agree they just don't work on ice to well. Example: the other day (new years eve I think it was) it was snowing in the morning but under the snow was ice. So i was fine until I got to the industrial complex where I work. I turned the wheel to make the right into the place and the car kept going straight. My reaction was oh ****,oh ****,oh **** . Lucky I must of hit a dry spot and the ass end finally came around to make the turn.

All of you who say all seasons work "good"... you guys dont under stand the material make up and physics behind a snow tire. You are ignorant to think that a all season is in the same playing field as a snow tire. Canada's highway or road safety department has done numerous tests on youtube go watch them. All seasons are ****. You can try and argue it all day but in the end vs a snow tire your wrong. even the cheap ass walmart no name brand snow tire will fair better than your all season.

I know the make up snow tires with softer compounds that don't harden in cold temperatures.

Im not sliding in the snow. Im not having a hard time controlling the car. So the added cost of snow tires isnt justified plain and simple. Ive been driving 13 years now and im wreck free. Hell the only time ive spun in the snow I was trying to. Also I do understand the differences in tires for times of the year. Trust me i did one winter on michelin pilot sport ps2's (235/45/17) on a 3rd gen Eclipse GT. Now the sad thing about it is I made it through 8 inches of snow with summer performance tires on the car. But those things would spin on dry pavement in 3rd gear just due to how hard the cold temps made them. For the same reason they had no traction is the same reason you dont run winter tires during the summer. They arent made for it. But plenty of us will do just fine on all season tires.

i slide a little with my new tires but its all about controlling your car.
snow tires do make a HUGE HUGE HUGE difference then any other tire though.

I have a set of new Goodyear Egale F-! all seasons on my Cobalt and the one day we had snow I got around no problems, even got up hills other were stuck on and could not get up. Where I live we get very little snow if any, so it's not worth the money to buy winter rims and tires for the little snow we do get

This. I have Winterforce MS tires and I dominate the road. They are on 16" stealies premounted/balanced from Tirerack.com and they are awesome. I think it was $550 shipped. Saved my SS so many times. Drives better than almost any SUV on (suck-in) All Seasons.

I cant believe theres really a debate......this is like someone saying my Cobalt sucks at autox, and everyone saying "all season tires are fine, I never crashed with them" Yeah no **** they work, but its not the proper tire. Just like a proper performance tire is needed to best autox safely and quickly, a winter tire is needed best drive safely and securely in sub freezing weather and when the roads are snow or ice covered. Stopping distances with all seaon tires are anywhere between 15 and 50% greater than with snow tires, thats a HUGE difference. Same goes for acceleration and turning. Just google snow tires versus all seaon tires and you will find innumerable articles all pointing to one thing.....all season tires arent the proper tire once the temp drops.

Maven we get that. But for those of us who really dont see much snow on average its just not worth it. If it truly snows that bad here people just dont go out as much. But then again I personally dont have any problem getting around. If you plan for the amount of acceleration and braking you need then its not as much of an issue. Yes snow tires are better in the snow. But for those of us who barely get any snow the money needed to buy 4 new tires and possibly 4 new rims just for maybe 3 or 4 snows isnt worth it.

i've got winters on my 2.4 and it was a night and day difference from the stock all season's. also a good thing to remember when driving in the winter when it is icy or snow on the roads is soft fluid motions. no quick sudden movements as that will cause you to loose control of your car.

dude ur in Missouri, you dont get "that" much snow compared to northern states and is it even hilly there?

My escape came with all seasons and I just drove my friends durango with all seasons. I have had winter tires on my escape for 3 weeks now. and theres NO comparison. the all seasons slide like crazy, braking is worse, accel is ok, turning is worse. the snow tires allow better stopping, accel and turning. Like maven said, yeah all seasons "may" work but they arent the proper tire.
