WTB: Stock SS Muffler
the pay is awesome, and the benefits are outright amazing.
My friend just finished the state psych eval (last step) and is awaiting the next class in November. If there's an upcoming meet or something I could probably drag him out if you've got some questions or want some tips on the process from someone that just finished it. Also know a couple other CHP officers if you have any questions.
I'm not sure how long ago your brother-in-law went through the academy but if you're just starting the process be prepared for everything to take about year. They stopped their trial "accelerated" recruitment process recently and even that was taking about 9 months for everything. But persistence pays off and they've definitely got some nice pay and benefits.
A stock take-off muffler should be pretty cheap but if you can't find something you may laugh, but some of the big aftermarket oval mufflers for diesel trucks flow well and quiet down small displacement four bangers pretty well.

I think my thing is pretty accelerated...
I take my written test 9/13/08, physical ability test & psychological written 10/18/08, and to finish it off a Qualification Appraisal Panel Interviews on the week of 10/20/08.
After that I'd imagine a backround check, and cadet school in the spring for 27 weeks...
Long way to go... wish me luck this Saturday. Apparantly the written is known for a 50/50 pass rate...

----
If I fail... it's off to apply for a management position for Ralphs or some sort of retail store w/ decent benefits.
Or get back into the computer scene; I'm not to bad of a computer tech.
Haha, that that soccer guy above is getting me a quote tomorrow for shipping.

have you considered corrections?
no problem. Not sure how the corrections are operated down there. Private? Government? Too lazy to look haha. But up here, its not unheard of correctional officers to make 90k-100k+ per year (including overtime of course)
