Droid X?
Anyone else looking into getting the new Droid X from Motorola. I have had the Motorola Razr now for 5 years and its a great phone but i have found my self needing GPS, Camera, HD camcorder, web browsing and email on the go & at work, and many other things these new smart phones have available now days. I have never used a Droid phone before and i here some people (mainly iPhone users) say the android platform sucks and doesn't come close to the iPhone. I have read reviews and watched videos and it looks to me the Droid X is a much better phone then the new iPhone 4. Actually the only feature the iPhone 4 really has on the Droid x is the front facing camera and Face to Face time which is only usable for iPhone users (meaning you can only use this feature if your calling from an iphone 4 to another person who has an iphone 4)
YouTube- Droid X by Motorola
I am with verizon right now and apparently the iPhone 4 is coming to verizon soon (Jan 1st, 2011) should i wait until then or go with the new Droid x? What do you guys thing, have any of you used an android phone before?

Yeah, I'm on a waiting list to get it the day it comes out. They're going to call me on Wed to give me the details for Thurs.
I've currently got an LG Dare, and although I've been able to get it to do everything I've needed for the most part, it's definately showing it's age. I've had it since right when it was out too.
I've never owned an Android device before, but I've messed around with the stuff in the stores and even an Android OS emulator for a Droid.
I'm not leaving Verizon anytime soon, the grass is greener here compared to everybody else's performance with their other networks in the area (a city at that!), and so this seems to be one of the best overall options right now.
If this thing is designed for HD vids, movies, 8MP pics, easier to read webpages, multitasking, etc., I would hope that it has a big screen. As long as I can fit it in my pocket.
Get pumped! lol

Seen some reviews of it and it looks alright, a bit laggy if anything. Evo 4G beats it in my opinion as far as the big phones go, and Verizon's own Droid Incredible is arguably the best phone you can buy in the country right now. I'd also take a Samsung Fascinate on Verizon way before a Droid X, but it comes out later this summer.

i have the original droid, but it is one of the few that has the same OS as the droid X the new androin 2.2 (froyo)software, and i gotta say, it blows the iphone OS out of the water

Any lagginess is supposed to be taken care of when Android 2.2 "Froyo" is released on Verizon at the end of the Summer. That and it'll be getting Flash capabilities too.
Word is that it'll be released with 2.1 and will be updated to 2.2 before Summer's out.

Apparently you wont have to hold one as Verizon is well prepared for the sale volume on these phones and said today that they will have plenty of Droid X's to go around (unlike Apple and their 3 week waiting list for the iPhone 4) for the first week (thur 15 - sun 18). Good thing not a lot of people want this phone.

Who cares. Get a Samsung Fascinate on Verizon. The interface is like an iPhone, bigger screen than the iPhone but not a massive device like the X or Evo 4G, and it will be out this year and have 2.2 by the end of it.
And Ed I'd wholeheartedly disagree; a 2.1 Moto Droid that is not overclocked does not blow an iPhone 4 out of the water by ANY stretch. It's not even the best Android phone. A Froyo Nexus One on the other hand... iPhone.

I was referring to the android 2.2 software blowing away the iphone os, i didnt mean anything about the phones physically.

Perhaps. I mean I don't think 2.2 is a big enough jump from 2.1 to say it can destroy iOS. It's still opinion I would think; if you think Android is better than the iPhone, then you're gonna think 2.1 or 2.2 on most devices is better than the iPhone.

I dont understand how its a gimmick, I mean in a 4g area...its really fast. its wifi internet sure, att's "3g" supposedly can support more, but 90-99% of their coverage has slow ass lines to cell towers so the current 3g or 2g will be the only thing those customers get..so 4g isnt a gimmick, it works, its fast, its just wimax. /end thread jack

Its actually pretty fast from what i here but like 2% of the United States has 4g coverage so not that important as of now, maybe in a year or so we will actually use 4g in most places but not now. The video processing on the Droid X is far superior over the EVO 4g. Here is a little benchmark i found if you guys care.

As for the front facing camera, video call is cool but who really uses video calling? you cant use it when you drive unless your a dumb ass so the whole front facing camera is pretty much irrelevant unless you just love taking pictures of yourself for some reason. Other then that i just don't see the need for it.

hey dude I like the droidx, never ever knocked it. I only said its the same as the evo, except said listed features. I concur the front camera is well skype calls would be nice for business but normal calls no. kick stand would be cool, but needed? no, actually moto sells some kick ass cradles for the droidx. and dnla built in is ******* ****. 4g? meh evo owners pay $10 extra because of it even if they dont have 4g in their area. but its fast yes.

Was kind of a joke, but from what I've heard people on T-Mobile HSDPA have speeds comparable to Sprint's 4G. Fast for sure and definitely beats Verizon/Sprint's 3G, but either way Wimax is more like 3.5G. True 4G, i.e. LTE, will be rolled out by Verizon starting at the end of the year.

anyway...droidx will be sweet specially with flash 10.1 and the new OS on the horizon already. BUT rumor has it a dual core droid will be making its way to stores end of the year.....

oh and should look into the fact that Motorola is not supporting custom ROMs anymore.
What a trashy move. Very Apple-like
http://www.tomsguide.com/us/Droid-sm...news-7467.html
On an open platform we shouldn't be seeing closure of the system like this. Of course we have already seen the bloatware that companies like ATT can force onto Android phones.
It's really a shame. So much potential and it's the corporations holding it back, not the consumer.

Yeah I saw that too. ^ Word is that the Droid 2 will be also be like that too when it comes out. Maybe if they're using similar locking/encrypting techniques then when somebody cracks one, the others will be much easier.
Bought the Droid X today! They already ran out at the store, so they're overnighting it to me. Should be at my place in the morning.
