Headlight intake for turbo

I've been itching to do something to the car while i'm waiting on parts to come in. But i'm not gonna plastidip some random ass parts or put some fender stripes on it. I wanted to do something different. I remembered i have a spare set of headlights laying around so i got to work.

it will be. after some cutting of the radiator support and the headlight bracket.

this isn't what the finished product will look like though. come on now.. i'm better than that ricer stuff.. hahah. it will be nice and conformed and flowing. basically one giant velocity stack made out of a headlight.

but that part... i cannot show you guys.

I see where your going with this. but isn't the air blocked by the headlight mount and rad support? very interesting idea tho

it will run from the inlet here directly to the turbo. it won't just be an opening for airflow. it will be the new intake when i go to the track.

haha idk if ill be selling this. And for this to really work you need to cut your headlight bracket which isnt that big of a task. But youll also need to cut some of the radiator support. Which ill post pictures of that.

I just may take you up on that. But the picture i have in my head of the final product. Idk how it could be done with one piece. Id imagine youd have to cut and make some seems. Which im sure could be done but idk how it would look.

I was just thining my intake is sucking in hot engine air, I looked at my rad support and thought, that aint going to happen for street use. Great job, I can see with some bondo and fiberglass that thing looking very functional and be part of the body lines.

something like this.

I hope to god you mold the outer part of the headlight you left there to form into the tube in the headlight. It would completely badass and be a "wtf. thats nuts" factor.

Like I said, I'm in for pics, how to, and proof of this working.

+1 for definitely being original on this!

oh yeah itll flow nicely with the lines. And i cant imagine the part being cut has any real role structurally. Its too thin for that. But its not something that john q public would do himself ya know. But as far as pulling in hot air, ive always wondered when youre moving, how hot really is that air? I sgould put a temp sensor in the intake preturbo and compare temps going down the track with the regular lsjt intake and filter vs this taking in outside air.

Thanks man. Like i said i have a passion for just taking nothing and making something. Especially when its functional and people like it. Keeps my motivation up lol.

There wont be pictures or a how to from this point till first coat of paint

But yes it will be molded and form as one flowing piece. Thats the reason for taping the lens and cutting it like i did.

And i cant say its original. Theres lots of track cars that do this. But yeah i havent heard of anyone doing it on a cobalt.

I have a very fancy digital multimeter with a computer port that has realtime RMS readings of all functions. I should wire that up at the intake and take readings over a few runs. My Digital multimeter (dmm) can display tables and histograms of data, it would be perfect for this. Our intakes are in the same place. You think about a small scoop or bump in the hood?
