Haha, nice to finally see someone else thinks C/F needs to be painted. I doubt the Insurance company will be ok with paying double the price for a aftermarket hood though.

idk for sure, iv heard of cases where if the aftermarket is same price or cheaper they dont have a problem with it, because OEM from the factory isnt cheap either. Carbon fiber looks ok, but i like the clean look of paint IMO.

you're not kidding... what pisses me off is iv lived here over 2 years and have been ok. i park away from everyone so this kind of stuff doesnt happen... 1 week before i move into my house with a garage this happens. on the 4th of july, and my 3 year mark in the air force, today would not be a good day for me to go to the casino.

X2...the dealer told me when i wrecked my car that if i could find another rim (aftermarket) for it that he would add that in, because it was cheaper for the aftermarket than even a second hand wheel from a salvage yard.

Hopefully it all gets fixed, maybe you can find someone who already put a CF hood on their car and take their old stock hood off of their hands.

That is insurance fraud and any reputable shop will not do that in fear of being closed down by the state. If a shop bills an insurance company for work that was not performed, that is insurance fraud. More importantly, all vehicles repaired under an insurance claim are subject to audit. I have had cars that I fixed audited 2 years after they were repaired and I had to show all my invoices, pictures, and proof that I collected a deductible. In the state of Texas it is illegal to not collect a deductible.

More importantly, the repairs estimate must be approved by the insurance company before repairs can begin. In a lot of cases, the insurance company sends their own estimator to inspect a car and we at the shops must work off of that.

Besides, if you have a police report that states what happened this would not go on your collision coverage. It would go under your comprehensive coverage which usually has a $250 deductible, but it is the policy holder that sets their own deductible rates so yours may be different.

The insurance company will only pay to return the vehicle to pre-accident condition. Assuming that they pay for a brand new one, that would allow you about $275 for a hood. In all honesty, they will pay for a used one if it is available (which would still need to be painted) or an aftermarket replica. That would probably allot you about $200 for the hood and considering the prices of the aftermarket fast and furious hoods that are out there, I do not see this as being arealistic goal.

I agree. However he states that for various reasons he doesn't really have the spare cash to cover the deductible. Not to mention that it's hard to prove whether the auto body tech took 13 hours to fix something or 10 hours to fix something...

All of the labor times come from a database that the shops and insurance companies have to use. If you change any of the preset labor times to perform a specific task it raises a red flag with the insurance company and then they send a reinspector to the shop immedeatly to see whay you changed the labor time. The insurance companies have us shops by the ***** and pretty much control us. We do not have control over what labor times we charge, what labor rates we charge, or what parts to use. It is all up to them. That is why body shop labor rates are about $40/hr and a mechanical shop can charge $120 an hour. Mechanical repair shops almost never deal with an insurance claim nor is their business dependant upon insurance referals so they can charge what they want.

Since most of a body shop's work is insurance based, then we have to do what they tell us to do.
