Just got back from a fire a few miles from a little town called Hayfork, Ca just south of Susanville, Ca. Pretty good fire about 100 acres in steep STEEP terrian. We went as a strike team with 5 other engines and spent 3 days there so not too bad. Any way i got some cool pics while i was on the line.

No need to be a smart ass, and its the forest there were no structures involved or in danger so its not that sad......Yes i have been to fires where structures are in danger and people have to be evaced from their homes and that is a very sad situation, ive been on a fire very close to my own house where my gf was evacuated, but thats our job to protect them and their belongings if at all possible.
Same to you, no need to be a smart ass.
Hell no (nothing aginst vollys), im a fully paid full time federal employee. Next year i will be an aprentice so i will do one more year on an engine then i will go to a hot shot crew for a season then to a heli for a season then i will be a perminant employee and i can go where ever and do what ever with quals up the ass and at only 20 years old (21 on Oct, 11th).......Its a very good program.

Hey listen man I don't really think that anyone here is trying to be a smart ass, or belittle your chosen profession in any way. In my OPINION ANY time that mother nature is injured it is SAD that is all that I was trying to say. Before you start telling me that burning is a good thing for the forest and the trees, I agree with that as well but I still find it sad.

How'd you get into that? I'm a volunteer FF here in NJ and I CAN'T WAIT to finally get a career spot somewhere. Probably gonna take me another year-year and a half to get my Fire Science degree then I can really start looking for stuff. Wildland firefighting has always interested me though. PM me if you don't feel like posting here. Thanks man.
So your a volly at your local station? If i were you i would apply (RIGHT NOW!) on avuedigitalservices .com for the Forest Service as a GS-3 seasonal. Im sure you have enouth quals and certs that there will be no problem getting a job with them. One of the guys on my crew (first year also) has been a volly for awhile and is an assistant caption at his volly station was hired on as a GS-5 which is verry rare but good for him, good money.
If you have any more questions, HOLLA!
