Just got back from a fire in Nor-Cal, Pics. (56k meh..)

Just got back from a fire a few miles from a little town called Hayfork, Ca just south of Susanville, Ca. Pretty good fire about 100 acres in steep STEEP terrian. We went as a strike team with 5 other engines and spent 3 days there so not too bad. Any way i got some cool pics while i was on the line.

Me.

Fire.

Fire.

Fire.

4am Snack, chicken noodle with veggies and some crackers. Gotta love MRE's.

More fire...

No need to be a smart ass, and its the forest there were no structures involved or in danger so its not that sad......Yes i have been to fires where structures are in danger and people have to be evaced from their homes and that is a very sad situation, ive been on a fire very close to my own house where my gf was evacuated, but thats our job to protect them and their belongings if at all possible.

Hey listen man I don't really think that anyone here is trying to be a smart ass, or belittle your chosen profession in any way. In my OPINION ANY time that mother nature is injured it is SAD that is all that I was trying to say. Before you start telling me that burning is a good thing for the forest and the trees, I agree with that as well but I still find it sad.

How'd you get into that? I'm a volunteer FF here in NJ and I CAN'T WAIT to finally get a career spot somewhere. Probably gonna take me another year-year and a half to get my Fire Science degree then I can really start looking for stuff. Wildland firefighting has always interested me though. PM me if you don't feel like posting here. Thanks man.

Well to start off i took a few fire classes at my local community college to get the certs and quals to be elegable for hire, then this year i got hired as a seasonal (GS-3) and then thru the season ive gotten quite a few certs, quals and other random things, SCBA's, etc. And now im elegable to apply to become an apprentice (app is in and im pretty much guaranteed but will find out in two weeks) which if done right will take three years (or seasons). After that i will be a GS-6 with tons of certs and experience and not to mention my CDL with tank and air brake endorcement. Then i will be able to get a job as an engine engineer or a permanant on a hot shot crew or even a permant on a heli tack crew. Their trying to pass something to where apprentices will work year arround so after this winter i might be working all year which works for me, i dont need 4 months of being a coutch potato sitting on css.net, lol.

So your a volly at your local station? If i were you i would apply (RIGHT NOW!) on avuedigitalservices .com for the Forest Service as a GS-3 seasonal. Im sure you have enouth quals and certs that there will be no problem getting a job with them. One of the guys on my crew (first year also) has been a volly for awhile and is an assistant caption at his volly station was hired on as a GS-5 which is verry rare but good for him, good money.

If you have any more questions, HOLLA!
