Newbie: GTI owner

Hey guys,

I'm a GTI owner and figured I'd join this community, seeing as how a good friend of mine (wardzach2007) just got his silver 05 Cobalt ss/sc not to long ago.

I hope to not receive any flaming. I'm not here to see who's car is better, faster, or nicer. Usually anything that we do to our cars, we do together, so i figured I might as well learn a bit about his supercharged car.

Now for some pics of my ride (and some of his):

2007 Mk5 Volkswagen GTI (color: Tornado Red)

yeah, that's probably one of the major complaints within the GTI community: the black moldings. Right now I don't really mind it, but I do regret not getting the factory body kit when I got the car.

Mods: Intake only and res. delete. Nothing spectacular by any means. Maybe some time down the line I'll do some more modifying. Right now I'm satisfied with how it is.

The cobalt has new projector headlights with a HID kit, which I might say look really nice. Gave the car a completely new look.

I'll try and have some pictures up soon.

I actually dont mind the black at the bottom, i was talking about the strips halfway up the door. but i dont like them on any car.

Always been a fan of the GTI's i was looking at them when i bought my balt, but went with the balt because of the price difference.

the cobalt definitely has an aggressive look to it. I like it. But I also like that my GTI doesn't really look "fast", ya know? Unless you know about cars, the GTi just looks like a hatchback.

I've always liked hatchbacks too, old EG civics, civic si's (7th gen), mini coopers, bmw 125, etc.

zach and i actually went to walmart to get some fuses for his car (one blew out while installing his interior LEDs) and we took both our cars cause i had to leave from there.

an older guy in a toyota tundra (new) asked us about our gas milage and what make and model our cars were. Pretty random, but a nice fellow. Then right before he left he said, "that silver one looks like it could get up and go". Zach said, "it has to be the spoiler".

haha, yeah, i'm actually not a fan of the spoiler, and i'm probably gonna get mine taken off soon. i'd rather the sleeper look myself.

also, i've always hated hatchbacks, but i like the GTI, go figure.

How do you like your MKV?

I REALLY loved them when I went to Mid-Ohio. They look nice!

My wife and I are looking to get her one. We are trying to find a white one though... red is the second choice!

I am actually trying to find a MKII GTI to turn into my Auto-X/Road Racing car. I can't wait.

Where in Texas you from? I'm originally from Texarkana... hope to move back real soon.

Very clean car I like the GTI's and one of my best friends has one. Performance to mialiage the hot hatches (and small sport coups) win the day. I like that they just released a four door version too.

Anyone know anything about those?

really? I've head it's cheaper compared to other cars. I'm a n00b to modding and performance cars.

500 for a ECU reflash that'll get you about 250 HP to the flywheel isn't that bad.

wrd. I love the DSG transmission. I'm curious to see what the new Evo X SST transmission feels like.

I love it. Wouldn't trade it for anything in that price range. There are few cars I'd trade it in for above that price range too.

I LOVE Mk1's and Mk2's... i want one as a project car someday.

I'm from Houston.

Yeah, They still do. i have mine usually sitting on the dash.

You can see it in one of my pictures (the one where it's half the front of the car).

they're exactly the same size as the 2-door. The only thing is that the front doors are a bit shorter in order to make room for the other 2 doors. I'm a tall guy and when i had my previous 4 door (lancer) i was staring into the column if i looked to the left, and the same happened in the GTI, so i opted for 2 doors.
